How is he sitting on the edge of that wheelbarrow? This black and white truly captures alot of detail within the frame of this shot. The background almost seems a little too busy in the backdrop, drawing from the focus on your uncle. I like his reflective poise, however it's a shame you weren't able to capture him looking in your direction. As is, the shadowing really hides his facial features that tell so much about a person's character. It looks like you're really having fun exploring all the facets of photography.

You have a lot of interesting shapes going on in the background. Contrast looks good, nice framing on your subject, subject is in focus, and overall, this image seems to tell a story, which is only enhanced by the use of black & white. Good job.

I could understand if you lost some crispness from scanning it into your computer but I believe your photo should be focused more on your subject without all the noise (clutter) in the background. Also its a shame its so close to the top and your missing his feet, if you were going to go this route I think you should have concentrated mainly on his expression and emotions, and got mainly a head shot.

larkin445, you have a great pose her for your uncle, and had you been able to arrange for a simpler background this could have been a much better photograph. As it is, the image is far too busy and cluttered. The exposure is not good, and it is unfortunate the man's head is so close to the edge and that his feet are lost.
Peace. Papa
