Jmerrel, I appreciate the excellent review and rating. This painting has been around FAR for several years. I was surprised to see a review on it. Russ Cleversley

Andie, thanks for the excellent review and rating. Are you aware that this is a digital Photoshop painting and not a photo? I paint realism. I see that you are new to this forum, welcome aboard. I looked through your portfolio, you are a gifted photographer. Your works are very impressive. I loved your mixed media "Powerless". It is surreal, very expressive and beautiful. I look forward to seeing more. With your high level of talent, this forum should bring you much satisfaction. Take care, Russ www.pixelartisan.com

Anette, thanks for reviewing this painting. Based on what I see in your portfolio, you CAN do this in Photoshop if you are willing to put in the effort. It requires extreme patience and the understanding of the scope of what can be accomplished with Photoshop. My paintings take over 250 hours because of the high level of details that I have a passion for. I started painting small images, easy elements and objects then continued to add more and more details and realism as I progressed. Landscapes are the easiest to do, there are some good brushes in Photoshop that will help you achieve the textures and build structures. Just do it!! Take care, Russ

I never saw this originally but congratulations on winning the competition, so well deserved a win as this is another magnificent piece of artowrk. As with your others Russ there is so much delightful detail to be seen in this image and it tells a great story about the life and existence of this family lobster business. Just darting back to your notes, you should definitely take it as a compliment if people think your works are photographs as it means they look so detailed and realistic - even if you want your art to be recognised as art, for those who do not look closely enough and see a photograph, from them, that is a compliment!

I find the most fascinating and absorbing part is the boat has, the boats and all the paraphernalia to be seen including the little work bence inside of the boat house/shed. The reflections and colours in the water are awesome and you even have the green stuff on the lower parts of the timber supports which indicate the high tide line. Everything is just phenomenal. The red sky is gorgeous but I actually find myself enjoying and basking in the detail in the bottom third!

Jan, this one of the most comprehensive reviews that I have ever received. Your review shows that you have taken the time to truly look at the work and have discovered all of the finer details that I have added. When I paint these images I try placing myself within the scene and envision precisely what would be the reality of being there. The seaweed on the timbers seemed to be a touch of realism that I could not resist, along with the tide stains. I am so pleased that you have noticed all of the subtle but contribuatory nuances of this painting. Thanks again, Russ

JH, I really appreciate the review and the 5 stars. I was curious how you spotted this image on the site. It was not on the main listings and ceratinly did not reward you much for the review. I looked through your portfolio, saw some great very nice photos....nice meeting you. Keep the shutter cranking. Russ

HI Russ Your painting did not offer much but It was one of a few that are still use on the opening page and is a eye catcher.

reply by the artist on 28-Apr-2007
Yeah, they become pretty worthless on FAR unless the artist continually promotes them. I often review just on the basis of excellence, ignore the review rewards. There are many really good images aimlessly floating on FAR, just waiting for someone to care...you cared, thanks a bunch. Russ

Julie, thanks for your kind review, much appreciated. I didn't remember receiving reviews from you before so I looked at your profile and portfolio. Not much there, hope you post some of your works soon. I also see that you are new to FAR, welcome. It a lot of effort to participate on this site but the rewards are well worth it. I had let my art lay dormant for many years, decided to try FAR and have had a wonderful experience. My passions have been re-energized and now spend many hours, every day, painting. I hope that you find the same experiences. How did you spot my art on the site? Thanks again, Russ

    Dear Russ:

Yes, I am new to FAR, just joined yesterday. I am a photographer by trade but I also do some Fractal Arts. I have just finished my own website recently, it is www.julieleearts.com. Right now I am just looking around to see what other sites I want to join. I like FAR but like you said, it is a lot work and I don't want to join something and leave it be, if I join, I will spent time and energy for it. Anyway, I mean what I said when I commented on your work - they are beautiful and you have a lot of talent. Thanks for YOUR kind words.

Wow! This is so beautiful! I didn't know that you digitally painted these (and with just a mouse). The way you enhance pictures really brings the picture to life. It has such a great, uplifting feel to it. I love when people make art like this because it just adds more beauty to our world. Take care for now.

Hiroko

hiroko, you are close to making a grown man cry...Your chosen words for the reviews are so touching and sincere. I really appreciate that you went to my portfolio and reviewed two works that did not have the FAR incentives attached to them. It makes the reviews even more special. Thanks in bunches, Russ

Excellent digital painting. I love your colors and the detail. It's very lovely. The red house really stands out amongst the others. And the red of the sky is very nice. Has a nice tranquil feeling. Great composition. Thanks for sharing.

Lmg, these paintings are technically difficult and tedious, but a nice 5 star review from you makes it worth every minute. Thanks, Russ

Hi, you have a very apt name. Ahwtever you have done you have done it excellently! I looked and looked and before reading your notes decided it was not a photograph. It is extremely cleverly done. I love the colours and sharpness. Well done.

3Jacks, thanks for the 5 stars and the nice review. These "absolute realism" digital paintings are technically difficult but very rewarding to do. I try to straddle the fence between photo-realistic and a painterly look. I could actually make it look totally photographic but it just does not seem to have a purpose. Thanks again, Russ

Amazing piece! You have done an unbelievable job. The colors, composition, and texture are all so well combined. I think you should definitely feel complimented that people mistake your work for photographs, they are that realistic!

Ik, thanks for the 5 stars and the nice review. These "absolute realism" digital paintings are technically difficult but very rewarding to do. There is another similar theme painting in my portfolio, "BygoneDays" that is done the same way, third one being painted now. Thanks again, Russ
