Pat is new to photography, since July 2010, but is finding it very interesting. In July Pat obtain a couple of film cameras and a Sony Cyber-shot digital which is her camera of choice these days. She has been painting with acyrlics for years, as well as she writes poems. Due to now being a care giver to her husband of 29 years she turned to photography for some creative release. She enjoys Macro images the best and has an interest to learn more in the field. Pat enjoys captures of the unusual or shot in a different way than the norm, when ever she can she adds some artisic flavor to her images and hopes you will enjoy her work as well.

abunden : I have been a member of FAR for nearly two years and contrary to their claim it is a place to sell your work I have never met anyone on the site that claims to have sold anything. There is frequent discontent from members on the sites forums over issues ranging from cheating in competitions to biased and unfair reviewing, these remarks are often removed arbitrarily by the sites moderator Tom and people are expelled without the right to reply for expressing opinions about the site that he doesn't like.

Well been quite the last week and a half on here, LOL! I posted a photo that was terrible and I knew it, of course it was slammed but rightly so. Guess I posted it because I got cocky thought it was "good enough". Some one I respect on here pointed out all the errors (more or less said what the heck you doing, LOL) I reshot the image and fixed it. Then I posted an art piece that I knew did not convey what I wanted and another person i have a lot of respect reviewed it and confirmed it was not up to par, so I reworked that one got it to where I was happy with it. I just wanted to say a big thank you and hugs to those that help push me and make me push myself to improve. It is what learning is all about! Funny how you can get comfortable and compliant in your work until some one gives you a wake call, LOL! Thank you to all those that care and help in the learning process it is very much appreciate from this humbled photographer/artist! :)Pat

Like you put on a cert. lets say for 3 days then when that expires do you do it again? Just trying to figure out how some are getting so many views and reviews? Still learning, LOL. :)Pat

I have only ever once promoted something to the top place for the full 3 days which was underwater paradise and that raked in around 40-50 reviews, I dont see how it would be possible to get 100 in the one go, not unless you had millions of fans and were generally very loved lol

Pat Christensen : Well Don I agree 100% the about of reviews. They are not a matter of concern for me, the quality of what is said in a few is. I was just amazed at the few that repost as I supected, why, just to earn that ATB, whats the point? Patting themselves on the back I guess. I understand there are the few that are exceptional like most of your images, they deseve to be there. Maybe the site should only allow one posting one 2/3 day cert and thats it, then maybe we would indeed only see the truly good ones on the front page? Just my thoughts.

icnpictures : I am fairly new at all of this and have had to figure it all out the best I can, but I do try to pick my very best images to post and I am very picky (on regular images- sometimes not as much if it is just for a contest) I do try to get one to the top ten every week or so so that I can keep my rankings up- but I only leave it there for 2-3 days and that is very expensive. I do not buy points so I have to rate for a whole week to get approximately 50.00 dollars to get my image to the front page. I do not have a huge amount of fans so that is pretty much the only way I get lots of reviews and keep my rankings up- also I just do not have the time to post tons of pictures. No one ever explained how it is "supposed" to work, so I just watched and saw that the ones on the front get the most reviews and I can put less on and still get good rank if the picture is good. Just my thoughts- maybe a lot more than you wanted to hear :) Cindy Booth

msdemeanor : I'm glad you posted this because I didn't understand how it worked either except that the "rules" specifically say no reposts so they must just be bumping them up with points. I agree with whomever said a couple certificates and you should have enough varied opinions to figure whether you have a keeper. And then there the ones who want to follow you and kibitz unkindly every photo you post. I want to learn so if I post something I think is pretty good, I will bump it up to get more than 2 reviews to see if I'm deluded or on point Thanks again for geting the answer for me.

DeeM757 : You're very welcome. DSG was saying he viewed his/her art and no logos were on it. The only thing I know of personally to discourage right click steal a pic is to upload only thumbnails of your art. That way, if they download them, they can't resize them because they will be blurry. But then, you have complaints from viewers that your art isn't large enough to see clearly. You could check in with the owner of FAR site and see what they recommend. Good luck. Right now, I don't care if someone steals my art - at least it shows they have good taste. LOL

digitalscud : That was very kind of you to acknowledge my little achievement for my local Photographic Club, which I had entered two prints three times in previous competitions and come nowhere and instead of prints this time, I entered the digital category via the computer, so they can be shown on a big screen for the Judge to make a few comments about your work. He starts with the beginners class first and then goes through everyone's prints and towards the last few, if yours hasn't been mentioned, it means you could be on for an award. He read out two who got commended, still wasn't me, then two that got highlt commended, still not me, couldn't believe it and then up came my picture for 3rd place and that was for the first time and the Judge said some very nice things about it aswell, saying how fantastic the colors on the leaves looked. I was well 'chuffed' and thank you for your congratulations, it was very nice of you and you who is so 'multi talented'. A big thanks! Paul - digitalscud.

I feel like I am forever reviewing just to earn enough members dollars to get two images promoted. My question is how often do others review 5-10 images aday 10-15 aday or more? I have kinda given up on the whole ranking thing, there is no way I can keep up with it so just try and review as many as I can fit in and then promote as much as I can afford, I refuse to pay for the dollars so reviewing is the only option. I seem to manage ten a day at the most. Wish I could review everyones but it would turn into a full time job. It is costly to promote, maybe they should give extra dollars out whenever you receive a certificate that would help.

Yeah I never worry about ranks I get what I get I figure, lol. But would like to promote my stuff more but it is sooo costly. I mean I figured it out the other night to get one cert. on an image it cost $7.00 and to earn that it took me approx 10 reviews, then if you want to push it up it is another $2.95 each time more reviewing then I had a second picture... well still working on promoting that one lol this is nuts really. I do know I need a reg. cert. first the 2-3 day kind then add lepachans ect to up the amount the view is worth, but how some people get to the really high amounts I don't get yet they must add on lots of stuff to the original cert to get it that high? If you are having trouble getting those add ons you should contact the site see if they can help as they are worth member money and helpful to promote work you earned them you deserve them. :)Pat

DeeZ : Well I review 25-45 pieces a day. I review the ones I'm following first, then my fans, then View Next if I have any spare time. Even with all that reviewing, I still buy member dollars as I post 2 works everyday and use a Treasure Chest for each, a Leprachaun for each and a member pump cent for each piece when I post. So rounding that up, it costs $32.00 member dollars a day to post two pieces. And as you know very few pieces pay a dollar...if I didn't buy member dollars I couldn't post two works a day...so yes, I probably spend $100-$200 dollars on this site a week...which is entirely too much! I won't be able to do that when I start the new job next week...so go out there and vote on the contests so I can win some moola LOL!!!!

sandiebolger : Totally agree with all of you and your comments, I dont buy member dollars either, just relay on reviewing, and like others do the people I am following first from my message box when I get notified they have posted, then look at the ones that pay the most and then if I have time go through who has posted that day, usually do about 20 reviews every other day or so, but I never get to post my work with a high pay out cos like you have not worked out how to do that or never have enough certificates etc to do it. Yes there should be more member cents given out for reviewing, maybe once you have reviewed ten you got a bonus, then twenty etc, however all that said this is the best site for sharing our work that I have found on the net, so must keep doing it lol :)

dodgement : Hi Pat:I used to earn $120 in 3 hours reviewing, Until far caught up with me. Copy and paste with a couple of different sentences appertaining to the work. Until Far caught me and gave me a warning. Now I do not bother to review as I have a life.I would not part with real money. I only give 6,s out on a Sunday night, and thats it. I do post 2 pics a day, When I started not reviewing and not boosting the pics, I went from position 38 down to 130. Just receiving the 2 reviews, I have crept up to 82 I think. It just goes to show, Money talks, I just want peoples thoughts and feedback on the pics before I sell them on another site.I have never sold one on this site and do not expect to.The position of the ratings are a farce.

CT_Photography : I guess i have a little different take on this. I dont use this forum to upload pics for friends and family. I use flickr for that. I use this forum to show case the best of my best. For contests and hopefully to sell. So putting money into this would kind of defeat the purpose. I do currently review a lot. I i usually post to page 1. 3 day base and 10pumps. I dont shoot for 2 a day (i would run out of good shots quickly) I post 2-4 a week. Mostly for contests. I think this forum is better designed for artists than photographers. I am curious if anyone has actually sold work on this site. Just my 2cents.

Unfortunately reveiwing is a big part of this site. As a beginner I do not feel I have the accomplishments to comment on anyone's work. That being said to promote my work I need to try to comment as respectfully and as well as I am able to do with out offending anyone.
