Pat is new to photography, since July 2010, but is finding it very interesting. In July Pat obtain a couple of film cameras and a Sony Cyber-shot digital which is her camera of choice these days. She has been painting with acyrlics for years, as well as she writes poems. Due to now being a care giver to her husband of 29 years she turned to photography for some creative release. She enjoys Macro images the best and has an interest to learn more in the field. Pat enjoys captures of the unusual or shot in a different way than the norm, when ever she can she adds some artisic flavor to her images and hopes you will enjoy her work as well.

I have been away for a little bit and will continue to be for a short time. We have recently found out Nevada, my 5 year old has Asthma and we are presently dealing with her health issues hoping to be back soon. Best to all! :)Pat

Rivergirl51 : Good luck with Nevada. It's always nervewracking when the little ones get sick. But, with all the love she is getting, she will be fine.

abunden : I have been a member of FAR for nearly two years and contrary to their claim it is a place to sell your work I have never met anyone on the site that claims to have sold anything. There is frequent discontent from members on the sites forums over issues ranging from cheating in competitions to biased and unfair reviewing, these remarks are often removed arbitrarily by the sites moderator Tom and people are expelled without the right to reply for expressing opinions about the site that he doesn't like.
FAR is supposed to allow members to receive reviews about their work from other artists and photogs but in my opinion has little to do with the furtherance of the arts. Reviews have to be paid for with 'Member Dollars' earned form reviewing other peoples work or by buying them with your hard earned cash. To get say twenty five reviews you will spend an average of about fifty dollars promoting your work, this equates to roughly 80 reviews you must right if you choose to earn them or fifty real US dollars if you pay with real money. I see FanArtReview as a mere a cash machine for its owners, you will need to spend a great many dollars in order to get more than two reviews per picture and even then most are not informative in any way.
The site is dominated by incapable photographers clambering for the no. 1 rated spot and artists looking to massage their egos. Take a look at the poor standard of work frequently displayed on their home page as 'Todays Well Received' and the appalling standards of work their top ranked photographers portfolios and decide for yourself before joining.
To achieve top status as a ranked photographer or artist on FAR needs dollars and not ability, the 2011 top ranked photographer often spends $100 US a day promoting her work.
This site has some MAJOR issues with security too, they claim to protect your images and to stop them from being downloaded (stolen) by others but anyone that can log on to the internet can gain access and download them directly on to their own pc.
There used to be many reviews dotted around the internet from former members telling how bad this site really is but they are disappearing and one can generally now only find reviews that praise the site. I seriously doubt the authenticity of these reviews and put it to the sites management that there is more than a feint whiff of hypocrisy in working to remove these reviews. Any fool can start a website but a cleaver man will react to his critics.
HUGE NUMBERS OF MEMBERS HAVE LEFT THIS SITE IN DISCUST AT THE WAY IT IS RUN - AVOID FANARTREVIEW LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Pat Christensen :
Well been quite the last week and a half on here, LOL! I posted a photo that was terrible and I knew it, of course it was slammed but rightly so. Guess I posted it because I got cocky thought it was "good enough". Some one I respect on here pointed out all the errors (more or less said what the heck you doing, LOL) I reshot the image and fixed it. Then I posted an art piece that I knew did not convey what I wanted and another person i have a lot of respect reviewed it and confirmed it was not up to par, so I reworked that one got it to where I was happy with it. I just wanted to say a big thank you and hugs to those that help push me and make me push myself to improve. It is what learning is all about! Funny how you can get comfortable and compliant in your work until some one gives you a wake call, LOL! Thank you to all those that care and help in the learning process it is very much appreciate from this humbled photographer/artist! :)Pat

Keri Harrish : Sounds like the last week and a half was a good one :)
June 20 at 1:16PM
Pat Christensen : Any time you can learn something about your self its a good time LOL. I grew a little during that time(wish I could grow taller only 5'3 LOL) but I'll take personal growth any time! :)Pat
June 20 at 4:19PM
Keri Harrish : Self growth is always a good thing! As far as the height goes, I'm 5'1" and wish I was a little taller especially since both my kids have passed me on the height and rub it in whenever they can :)
June 22 at 1:20AM
MarthaHolloway : Try finding out you're shrinking!! I have gone from 5' 2 1/2 " to a mere 5'. Suspect it is from a collapsed disk in my back. Am facing possible surgery. This is seriously cutting into my fun time!! At this rate I may end up 4' by the end of the year:(
June 23 at 1:38AM
Bertodi : beautiful shots
June 23 at 4:34AM
Bertodi : what an interesting location name?
June 23 at 4:34AM
Pat Christensen : Keri, so far I am lucky, eldest daughter is shorter than myself, Nevada, the little one I thnk will tower over me though, LOL. Martha, so sorry to hear, back surgery is never fun. Wishing you all the best! Bertodi, thank you for the lovely comment appreciated truly. The name Wetaskiwin means: "the hills of peace" in Cree. :)Pat

Pat Christensen :
Here's a question for those of you that manage to get to the front page with like a 100 reviews? Do you promote your image more than once(some look filmilar). Like you put on a cert. lets say for 3 days then when that expires do you do it again? Just trying to figure out how some are getting so many views and reviews? Still learning, LOL. :)Pat
June 1 at 12:26PM
corrinas creations : I reckon they must be reposts. I have only ever once promoted something to the top place for the full 3 days which was underwater paradise and that raked in around 40-50 reviews, I dont see how it would be possible to get 100 in the one go, not unless you had millions of fans and were generally very loved lol
June 1 at 1:50PM
Pat Christensen : I hear ya, thats what I thought. LOL. Awwww are we not loved Corrina, Haaaaaaa. :)Pat
June 1 at 3:06PM
Pat Christensen : LOL, well I have tried that really good picture idea and it hasn't work for me as of yet either. Mind you I have heard being a member or at least supporter of a secret sect might make members take a second look! If not I might have to resort to the flag thing, LOL, any one know where I can rent a helicopter cheap??? :)Pat
June 1 at 8:31PM
Echo7 : I recently posted a Swan family picture. It gained 87 reviews. I only posted it for 2 days.
Sometimes they recieve high numbers. Sometimes they dont.
But yeh i do think people post again . Kinda strange. It shouldnt matter how many reviews. What matters is one review with very descriptive meaningful comments.
Echo. once again you give me the strength to love. With your beautiful scottish accent & sexy bum. We love you. Please continue to make us smile with your endless stupidity. =D
Eh while im on the subject of reviewing.
Hold the descriptive reviews to your heart & discard the 10 word reviews. Their pointless =D
June 2 at 7:31AM
Pat Christensen : Well Don I agree 100% the about of reviews. They are not a matter of concern for me, the quality of what is said in a few is. I was just amazed at the few that repost as I supected, why, just to earn that ATB, whats the point? Patting themselves on the back I guess. I understand there are the few that are exceptional like most of your images, they deseve to be there. Maybe the site should only allow one posting one 2/3 day cert and thats it, then maybe we would indeed only see the truly good ones on the front page? Just my thoughts.
If all else fails then I will pretend to be scotish, sexy and young with a flag in one hand and a remote control for the helicopter in the other. LOL. :)Pat
June 2 at 9:46AM
Echo7 : If FAR was my site. I would scrap the front page postings. The bottom half of the page " Todays well received " should take up the whole page for each genre of art.
The top ten "Boosted" works recieve endless 5 stars regardless of quality. This to me is pointless.
The front page of every website is their best form of advertising. If it featured all todays well recieved....the quality would be of a better standard...thus making for better advertising.
Not that i'm saying some of the front page isnt of a high quality. Because some of it certainly is.
I'm just thinking along the lines of...If i was to come to FAR...to consider signing up & the first image i seen on the homepage was an out of focus, overexposed picture of something strange. I simply wouldnt look much further.
Just my opinion.
Lol pretend to be Scottish. The more Scots we have...the quicker & easier it will be when we conquer England =D
June 2 at 11:19AM
Pat Christensen : LOL Don, well I don't know about taking over England, I have relatives there that might not take kindly to that but hey if you could get all males to wear a kilt you'd have my vote as I know what they wear under them, LOL! I like your idea for the front page, as you say it is the first thing new commers see when they arrive, unless your like me and don't know the difference between a good image or a bad one until 6 months later. :)Pat
June 2 at 1:40PM
RagsAuggie : I have never promoted anything more than once and I think I am never above the third page--I am uunsure why you would need more than 20 or so reviews--with that you get a taste of what you need to do differently and you should have several pointers in there
June 2 at 3:24PM
RagsAuggie : Wow-Mr. Negative--guess I wondered why you stopped reviewing my photos--this says it all doesn't it-I am the very average sunset, 2/3 of a duck, a badly focused duckling, A tightly cropped Polar Bear--
June 3 at 6:40AM
Lifesblessings.biz : I have never promoted anything with more than a 2 or 3 day certificate I do however use the member cent bump ups, that I receive from reviewing, to raise it on the listing in order to get more and varied reviews.
June 6 at 10:09AM
icnpictures : I am fairly new at all of this and have had to figure it all out the best I can, but I do try to pick my very best images to post and I am very picky (on regular images- sometimes not as much if it is just for a contest) I do try to get one to the top ten every week or so so that I can keep my rankings up- but I only leave it there for 2-3 days and that is very expensive. I do not buy points so I have to rate for a whole week to get approximately 50.00 dollars to get my image to the front page. I do not have a huge amount of fans so that is pretty much the only way I get lots of reviews and keep my rankings up- also I just do not have the time to post tons of pictures. No one ever explained how it is "supposed" to work, so I just watched and saw that the ones on the front get the most reviews and I can put less on and still get good rank if the picture is good. Just my thoughts- maybe a lot more than you wanted to hear :) Cindy Booth
June 7 at 10:45PM
scarlettmonty : I'd gladly trade 100 of those "cut and paste" fluffy reviews for just one real, genuine, honest, constructively-critical-and-offering-good-advice type ones. And I'd sell my soul for Don's Scottish accent and sexy bum. NOT, lol. Definitely kidding there! Already got a Scottish accent and a sexy bum - both belonging to my partner :))
June 8 at 10:50AM
Pat Christensen : Thks every1 for all the gr8t feed back on this question, it has been interesting. Scarlett, well now you really do know what they wear under those kilts you lucky girl you haaaaa! Looks like every1 has a differnt approach to how to promote, I guess its a case of what works, works. I appreciate the info people thks:)Pat
June 9 at 7:46PM
msdemeanor : I'm glad you posted this because I didn't understand how it worked either except that the "rules" specifically say no reposts so they must just be bumping them up with points. I agree with whomever said a couple certificates and you should have enough varied opinions to figure whether you have a keeper. And then there the ones who want to follow you and kibitz unkindly every photo you post. I want to learn so if I post something I think is pretty good, I will bump it up to get more than 2 reviews to see if I'm deluded or on point Thanks again for geting the answer for me.
June 18 at 10:54PM
Pat Christensen : Thks for the imput, appreciated. I don't think they are reposting but they seem to be using the 2/3 day cert and when that runs out doing it again on the same images, although personally I see no point in doing this at all. I agree a few reviews and you should know if you have something good and bump it up as needed to get a few more. Thks for your time. :)Pat

Can some one explain to me the message left by DSG Graphics in the "forums" under "General" Concern and awaiting a reply!!! Thks :)Pat
May 30 at 9:54AM
DeeM757 : Hi Pat,
We have a saying 'right click, steal a pic.' I think DSG is saying that if you type in the address at the bottom of his message, you'll see all the art on FAR and you can download anything you want without paying the artist. When I was on RedBubble, a few artists complained that their art was being stolen and used elsewhere. Red Bubble replied: If you want your art to be exposed then you take a chance of it be stolen. Hope this helps.
May 30 at 10:41AM
DeeM757 : sorry should read: of it to be stolen.
May 30 at 10:43AM
Pat Christensen : Ok thank you Nadine for the reply. Now I understand being on the internet we all take a chance of this happening, but the Logos we can place on out images here is suppose to help that from not happening correct? I thought this site was more secure than most due to that and other items added lately no? Is there other measures we personally should be doing to help prevent it from happening? If so what are they and how do we do it? I appreciate your help :)Pat
May 30 at 10:52AM
DeeM757 : You're very welcome. DSG was saying he viewed his/her art and no logos were on it. The only thing I know of personally to discourage right click steal a pic is to upload only thumbnails of your art. That way, if they download them, they can't resize them because they will be blurry. But then, you have complaints from viewers that your art isn't large enough to see clearly. You could check in with the owner of FAR site and see what they recommend. Good luck. Right now, I don't care if someone steals my art - at least it shows they have good taste. LOL
May 30 at 11:10AM
Shakeadog : Be assured if any of my work is taken or copied without my permission I will seek legal advice. We all work hard on our photogrpahy/art, I wont accept theft under any circumstance!
May 30 at 10:29PM
Pat Christensen : This issue was addressed by Tom the site manager in the forums under general and I am secure in the response there, for now, LOL. :)Pat
May 30 at 10:39PM
DeeM757 : Yes, Pat. I agree. I also feel more secure after reading Tom's response.

April 26 at 1:33PM
digitalscud : That was very kind of you to acknowledge my little achievement for my local Photographic Club, which I had entered two prints three times in previous competitions and come nowhere and instead of prints this time, I entered the digital category via the computer, so they can be shown on a big screen for the Judge to make a few comments about your work. He starts with the beginners class first and then goes through everyone's prints and towards the last few, if yours hasn't been mentioned, it means you could be on for an award. He read out two who got commended, still wasn't me, then two that got highlt commended, still not me, couldn't believe it and then up came my picture for 3rd place and that was for the first time and the Judge said some very nice things about it aswell, saying how fantastic the colors on the leaves looked. I was well 'chuffed' and thank you for your congratulations, it was very nice of you and you who is so 'multi talented'. A big thanks! Paul - digitalscud.
April 29 at 2:23PM
Pat Christensen : You are very welcome Paul, I think it is gr8t when our works finally get some acknowledgement well earned and the boost of confidence goes a long way to encourage us to keep going, so congrats again and thank you for the lovely remarks as well appreciated my friend! Keep up the good work! :)Pat

ALTAFGHORI : I want to add your profile on my Network of beloved Fan Art Review

May 8 at 4:52PM
designbydiana : I love your pet photos animals are hard to shoot because you have get them to be still! I usually have to have one of my children help out with holding them and treats help too! That's why I mostly just draw them once I get the photo
then I can work from that. Keep taking pictures and entering contests! Diana
May 15 at 12:49AM
Pat Christensen : Thank you Diana for the nice words I appreciate the comments and compliments you are too kind. Most of my images are of the wild cats/kittens within our area they won't let us get too close yet but, some are getting used to me and the camera, lol. I am trying to do other peoples animals now as they seems to be a wanting for this in the area, and I am getting more experience with it. Animals make gr8t subjects, always something different to shoot, lol. Thank you for stopping by and the encouragement! :)Pat

To Those That I Review!
I am not you, I am me.
I do not see with your eyes, I see an image through my eyes.
I do not understand with your experiences and skills, I understand only through what I see through my own experiences and skills.
I do not feel with your heart, I feel the message of an image if it so moves me through my heart.
I review with I hope, artisic eyes, honest words and a world of heart.
I assist if I can, I explain always, even it is just what I see and I enjoy tremendously.
If it is different than the norm, I will acknowledge your creativity.
If it moves me, evokes emotion whether good or bad I will let you know.
Am I perfect, NO, I am human.
Will I be wrong, on occassion yes I will be willing to change a rating if need be always.
Will I be rude, mean or cruel? NEVER!
I refuse to crush a persons soul or artisic endeavor.
Who am I... a women, wife, mother, artist, photographer and more.
I am just me and this is how I review.

February 7 at 12:54PM
sandiebolger : Well said Pat I totally agree with you. Do you know what happended as to why Virginia left, that was very sudden and she really seemed to enjoy being on FAR, I hope someone did not upset her, I have had a couple of people get very upset when I have not reviewed them favourably but as you say it is what you see with your own eyes and how you perceive what you see. Sandie :)
February 7 at 6:28PM
Pat Christensen : Hi Sandie, I have heard it was due to restricted time, she is very busy, but I agree it seemed like a 360 to me so I think there was more we were unaware of, really too bad though our loss she will be missed. I believe if you want to contact her write to Bev as she is still intouch with her, hope that helps. :)Pat

Pat Christensen :
I feel like I am forever reviewing just to earn enough members dollars to get two images promoted. My question is how often do others review 5-10 images aday 10-15 aday or more? I wish they would up the rewards for reviewing as it is so costly to promote! Might be just me frustrating... ARGHHHHHHHHH... OK I feel better now, JK LOL! :) Pat
January 23 at 8:20PM
corrinas creations : you and me both, dont know how people manage 2 images daily, I struggle with one or 2 a week! I have kinda given up on the whole ranking thing, there is no way I can keep up with it so just try and review as many as I can fit in and then promote as much as I can afford, I refuse to pay for the dollars so reviewing is the only option. I seem to manage ten a day at the most. Wish I could review everyones but it would turn into a full time job. It is costly to promote, maybe they should give extra dollars out whenever you receive a certificate that would help.
I suppose the whole idea is for us to interact with each other and bounce ideas off each other, which is great but yeah I hear you on the frustration that it can cause.
January 24 at 3:45PM
Pat Christensen : Hey I like your idea of getting extra some how, at present it seems like a lot of work for a little promoting just doesnt seem an even pay out. Yeah I never worry about ranks I get what I get I figure, lol. But would like to promote my stuff more but it is sooo costly. I mean I figured it out the other night to get one cert. on an image it cost $7.00 and to earn that it took me approx 10 reviews, then if you want to push it up it is another $2.95 each time more reviewing then I had a second picture... well still working on promoting that one lol this is nuts really. Some 1 needs to review a pay hike for us hard workers. :) Pat
January 24 at 7:58PM
gommie : Hey, I agree with you guys-I will refuse to pay for the dollars as well-I am curious how many actually do pay for them as opposed to reviewing for dollars- at least the way I do it-I can use 50 of my hard earned dollars just to get one image on the front page, yet see two or three images from one artist listed-- that's a lot of moola or a whoel lot of reviewing-albeit-I as yet do have a clear understanding how to best make use of the site-and maybe there is something I am missing-- one thing that puzzles me is- the certificate page tells me,I own so many leprachauns for instance--but when I try to use them- it then says I don't own any-- I laugh so hard-- I don't know how else to react to that --like I said, I 'm still a bit confused about the ins and outs of far--LOL
January 25 at 4:08PM
Pat Christensen : I have been here 6 months and still trying to figure it out, lol. I do know I need a reg. cert. first the 2-3 day kind then add lepachans ect to up the amount the view is worth, but how some people get to the really high amounts I don't get yet they must add on lots of stuff to the original cert to get it that high? If you are having trouble getting those add ons you should contact the site see if they can help as they are worth member money and helpful to promote work you earned them you deserve them. :)Pat
January 25 at 8:31PM
DeeZ : Well I review 25-45 pieces a day. I review the ones I'm following first, then my fans, then View Next if I have any spare time. Even with all that reviewing, I still buy member dollars as I post 2 works everyday and use a Treasure Chest for each, a Leprachaun for each and a member pump cent for each piece when I post. So rounding that up, it costs $32.00 member dollars a day to post two pieces. And as you know very few pieces pay a dollar...if I didn't buy member dollars I couldn't post two works a day...so yes, I probably spend $100-$200 dollars on this site a week...which is entirely too much! I won't be able to do that when I start the new job next week...so go out there and vote on the contests so I can win some moola LOL!!!!
January 26 at 7:59PM
Pat Christensen : LOL! OMG girlfriend you are busy! That is impressive, 25-45 a day. Wow and still you have to put out your own money to promote as much as you would like on your own works HOLY COW! By the way congrats on the new job, so do you know what "down time" means just wondering LOL, doesn't sound like it. Well I wish I had your energy and money LOL...want to donate lol JK . Well thks for the imput that was an eye opener. :) Pat

sandiebolger : Totally agree with all of you and your comments, I dont buy member dollars either, just relay on reviewing, and like others do the people I am following first from my message box when I get notified they have posted, then look at the ones that pay the most and then if I have time go through who has posted that day, usually do about 20 reviews every other day or so, but I never get to post my work with a high pay out cos like you have not worked out how to do that or never have enough certificates etc to do it. Yes there should be more member cents given out for reviewing, maybe once you have reviewed ten you got a bonus, then twenty etc, however all that said this is the best site for sharing our work that I have found on the net, so must keep doing it lol :)

WolfPause : No you are not the only one frustrated by reviewing. I would say I have to do 20-30 before I get what I need to promote. The system is severely flawed when some people can buy their way to the top while others of us are working away. Call me sometime in the evening - 651-402-4237 - I've got an idea for you.

dodgement : Hi Pat:I used to earn $120 in 3 hours reviewing, Until far caught up with me. Copy and paste with a couple of different sentences appertaining to the work. Until Far caught me and gave me a warning. Now I do not bother to review as I have a life.I would not part with real money. I only give 6,s out on a Sunday night, and thats it. I do post 2 pics a day, When I started not reviewing and not boosting the pics, I went from position 38 down to 130. Just receiving the 2 reviews, I have crept up to 82 I think. It just goes to show, Money talks, I just want peoples thoughts and feedback on the pics before I sell them on another site.I have never sold one on this site and do not expect to.The position of the ratings are a farce.

Pat Christensen : Thanks for the insights it does make one stop and think doesn't it. The whole system is frustrating and costly if you let it be. I will remain posting only when I think it is good enough or interesting enough then review what I need to promote it mostly through my fanned list. The rakings mean nothing to me as well as they are not real. I enjoy this site and the opportunity to post but the system has some real problems I agree. Thks for your imput. :)Pat

gommie : Oh wow--I've been away for awhile and am just now seeing these posts-too much going on in my life that takes precedent over FAR-I am impressed with your ability to review so many images in a day Cindy-On a good day I am lucky if I can get through 10,it takes so much time to do each one justice-I am pretty much done with trying to promote my work--I just don't have the time, at least right now--
Thanks Pat for the tips on how it all works-- I still don't understand-by the time I make enough to buy a 2 or 3 day certificate-by the time I earn something to add to it to make it worthwhile the certificate has expired and I start back at square one-and of course there is the ongoing struggle with the leprechauns...-LOL- just can't get ahead- ah well--we do what we can and if we don't like it we move along I guess..LOL

CT_Photography : I guess i have a little different take on this. I dont use this forum to upload pics for friends and family. I use flickr for that. I use this forum to show case the best of my best. For contests and hopefully to sell. So putting money into this would kind of defeat the purpose. I do currently review a lot. I i usually post to page 1. 3 day base and 10pumps. I dont shoot for 2 a day (i would run out of good shots quickly) I post 2-4 a week. Mostly for contests. I think this forum is better designed for artists than photographers. I am curious if anyone has actually sold work on this site. Just my 2cents.

Pat Christensen : Sorry for the delay in responsing only just saw your comments today. I agree sinking money into this effort defeats the purpose here. I think this site is mostly for learning and interaction between artist, not that people haven't sold works I'm sure they have but I think it is far and few. I myself have bought works on here but it has been paintings. Thank you for sharing your thoughts appreciated:)Pat

Princess_Holly : I completley agree with this! I am reviewing upwards of 20 images a day and most of my pieces are still on pages 4 or 5! I don't mind reviewing pieces in fact I love seeing all the different works and learning but I do think rewards should be bigger if you review a lot.

Pat Christensen :
Just wanted to say I am honored when a talented artist like "Mysticweaver" can turn one of my images captured into a beautiful piece of art. "First snowfall" is a beautiful interepetation, wishing her all the best!

Pat Christensen :
Unfortunately reveiwing is a big part of this site. As a beginner I do not feel I have the accomplishments to comment on anyone's work. That being said to promote my work I need to try to comment as respectfully and as well as I am able to do with out offending anyone. My comments are simply from my point of veiw and my own likes, if I have offended any one it is not my intention and I hope that is understood.

CRShutterSpeed : I feel the same way you do in regards to writing reviews. It is an important aspect of this website. All we can do is the best that we know. Staying respectfully as you mentioned, is the best!
