INFORMATION
Retired dentist "with too much time on my hands" [wife's quote]
Since getting my first 35 mm as a teenager, I have pursued photography off and on for many years. However, since moving to Northern Canada [Yukon Territory] in 1997 and getting into digital photography, I have become much more involved.
In recent years I have been to workshops with Richard Berry [landscapes] and Barry Haines [photoshop] as well as digesting what others are doing.
The Yukon and neighbouring Alaska are great fodder for a camera and the fact that I am now semi-retired from Dentistry leaves me time to travel.

Yukondick: I don't believe that photos should be left just the way they came off the disc. What the eye sees and what the sensor sees are not the same. Sensors have a much more limited scope than the eye. that is where software takes over. Photoshop and like softwares allow us to try to recreate what we saw that inspired us to take the shot in the first place. Likewise, I believe in shooting RAW as there is so much more information available to work with.

d90dewey: I appreciate this view, but I personally have a problem with waterfalls that are too smooth and unrealistic. I guess that's the difference in my mind of photography and art. I do want to move to RAW, and may be asking questions if you don't mind! take care

Yukondick: I agree with what you have to say about the water. In many shots they get too smooth - they should look like they are running which is how we see them. They should not be frozen or silk like.
I would be happy to discuss the merits of RAW. the only downside I can see is the amount of memory it takes up.

Jorge Gaete: I agree. I do all my work in RAW.
The have fun in the dark room= Photoshop. Agree a gain takes lots of memory at 15 megs pershot.

Yukondick: Storage is cheap these days. I like working with thousands of shades rather than 256 jpegs
