I am an R.N. but I didn't work long in this field. I have 4 boys and 1 girl, and they kept me busy.My husband and I started our own flooring store in 1974. It has really grown and two of our sons are now ready to take over. I got my Nicon D3000 about 2years ago.Photography became my passion shortly after that. The one thing that amazed me the most is that you see the world in a very different way. Almost as though you just woke up. This will be my retirement hobby and I love it!!

I have been on this site since 2011 and have not found anything that has upset or bothered me but tonight I did. My last post Red Tulip received a two star and a three and one half star from members that joined this month. One has shared nothing, has posted one picture and has no fans and is not following any artists. The other shared one sentence, has posted four pictures and joined very recently. Now I am not saying that this posting deserves more than a four or five but really a two? I am in awe of the postings that are on this site from true artists, some professional some self taught, but truly great(an understatement for sure). These are the artists that review and teach, review and teach more. This is what has helped me to take better pictures than I did two years ago and it is just now that I feel confident to review with some knowledge. New members should read and learn how to review before they review. How do you feel?
Mollie213 : You are not alone in these feelings. I have had the same thing happen to me. It appears that these new members feel it is their duty to knock our photos. I believe the problem is that these newbies have not studied the site or read what the stars mean. I had one person that continued to give me two and threes,but FAR said these low scores would not count against me. I don't know a thing to do about this, but it is a bad problem.

Rickyrick : I think unless you have a bit of money to invest in the site you have to start commenting and reviewing right away to earn member dollars and take part in the contests or promote your work, and you might not be really ready or comfortable at the start, it takes a while to understand how to review and rate, I gave a low rating on my first review but the artist notified me right away and I amended it, since then I have had some low ratings but it is usually new people learning, if they carry on doing it that is different, but it does take time. It would have helped me if I had bought some dollars to get me through the first few weeks, or it might be a good idea to start newcomers off with a few freebies till they know what they are doing.

Yes Sange that is right I must try to ignore that type of comment but at the time it did bother me but if it had come from those you mentioned it would not have at all. They have been my teachers along with many more trusted members. What a great idea for newcomers to have some free promotions Veronica. That would have helped me a great deal. It takes a while to be noticed without buying your way there. Thanks for the feedback. I feel much better now.

Michael Whitson : I was just thinking about this very topic in a different way. First off, there are some very talented artists and photographers on this site. I have had my share of great ratings and a few below a fie mark. The stars are nice but it is what is written in the review that matters. What did you like or not. How to make it better and so forth. If they are good suggestion I will try to learn from them. If I don't think they well, I will keep doing it the way I want. I try not too get upset and not let my ego get bursed. Now back to the stars, I feel people here and I am gulity of it too, give too high of ratings on reviews. Maybe we all need to go back and take a look at he review guild lines. Just a thought.

donkeyoatey : I don't think her complaint was the rating, so much as the lack of explanation..often times people "gush", but give three stars, it is not helpful, as we can not know what they see "off" to fix.

beppe47 : Yes that is exactly right. I sent Tom a message to see what he thought of our ideas. Apparently new members already get free promotions when they join, are sent a private message about how to review and have help through the reviewing box so those bases are covered which I didn't know.

We have just been through the worst ice storm that I can remember!!! After two days we have just had our hydro come back on. A lot of trees have been broken off at the top and some uprooted so lots of clean up to do. You really don't know how much you miss something until it is taken away but without power we had lots of conversation in a candle lit living room and got caught up on what everyone is doing which we don't do enough. Actually it was not that bad except for all the dishes that have to be washed.LOL Pauline

It is with regret that I have to say goodbye for a while. My husband has become ill and will need my care for a few weeks.I hope very much to return if his health improves. I would like to let all of my friends on FAR know that grandchild number eight has entered this world happy and healthy. I was invited into the birthing room by my son and daughter-in law and with out a doubt was witness to a true miracle. All is well and it was an awesome experience.
