INFORMATION
Professional Photographer since February 2010. I am not a traditional photographer, I do not follow any sort of rules by any means, I pose unlike a typical photographer, over expose and under expose. This is how I work because Photography is an art and this is how I see people and objects. Why follow the rules and photograph like everyone else, you have one chance to capture a shot how you see the person or object, take it. I love what I do, always have, and I appreciate all the kind comments and feedback, will I change the way I see the world, absolutely not.Owns and operates Saylea Photography Studio in Appleton, WI. Specializing in Non-Traditional Portrait, Candid, Family/Couples, Parties and Birthdays. Performance/Concert , Boudoir, Nude/Sensual Photography, Street Photography and Land/City Scape Photography.

We take pictures because we know we will forget. We will forget the week, the day, the hour. We will forget when we were happiest. We take pictures out of pride, a desire to have the best of ourselves preserved.

Saylea Photography: Newcomers really need to learn the site a little bit better
January 1 at 3:47AM
Sinbackkk: Could you please expand this thought, old timer?
    January 1 at 11:08AM
Saylea Photography: Old timer hahaha that is too funny. Just a general opinion from what I have seen with going through everything

Saylea Photography: Opinions do not matter unless you know what you are talking about
December 26 at 6:01PM
    Sinbackkk: How so not true!
    December 26 at 7:21PM
    Sinbackkk: But,thats just my opinion!
    December 26 at 7:22PM
webster: In my opinion, you couldn't be further from the truth. And I know what I'm talking about.
    December 26 at 7:46PM
Saylea Photography: Opinions do not matter to me, until you are in my shoes you have no say whatsoever
    December 26 at 8:36PM
    Sinbackkk: SHUT UP...
    December 27 at 8:00AM
Saylea Photography: Yea shut up, no one is talking about Jesus nor cares
    December 27 at 10:05AM

Saylea Photography: #13 Yay!
December 12 at 7:57AM

Saylea Photography: Is it me, or is there just not a lot of ppl rating or posting the last week or so?
December 7 at 8:50PM
    Sinbackkk: IT'S YOU...
    December 7 at 9:25PM
Saylea Photography: Lol no cuz there is hardly anything new to review and it's all the same stuff that was up days ago
    December 7 at 9:44PM
A.J. KING: saylea, i've stopped receiving your postings??? as well as those of those other i follow. not my choice.
    December 10 at 10:19AM
A.J. KING: inothter words, for some reason i don't get, i am not getting new postings.
    December 10 at 10:19AM
Saylea Photography: I still get mine from everyone, that is strange, I have not been posting much lately though
    December 10 at 7:56PM

Saylea Photography: I am sorry, but just because you spend a lot of money to put higher amounts on your photos, does not mean you should dominate the site with bad work. Yes I know I will get many opinions on this, but come on now
December 4 at 8:15AM
Flight_of_Raven: If all the members come together and rate work honestly, we can remedy this problem. Well, to a small extent, anyway...

You know, there's actually a rather large pool of very talented artists who left this site for this very reason.
    December 4 at 11:15AM
Sinbackkk: I could not agree with you more. What a complete waste of money, especially during this time of year. It's one thing if the money used was earned through reviewing, quite another when it's coming out of pocket/ego. I wonder how many toys and meals that moeny could have provided to some truly needy causes? Just wanted to add my 2 cents. That's all I can afford.
    December 4 at 12:59PM
Sinbackkk: Flight of Raven- thankfully, one of them has come back.
    December 4 at 1:01PM
NinaDd: Yeah, sometimes I feel like the member dollar system is a little flawed. I work for all my member dollars by reviewing so it is hard to get things on the front page. In fact, I don't think I've ever been in the top paying tier. Of course, that means (to me) when something of mine gets a "recognized" or "all time best" ribbon I must have really earned it as opposed to "buying" it. :)
    December 4 at 1:13PM
NinaDd: Oh, and I also try to participate all round. I vote in all the contests, whether I am entered or not, and start contests. I nominate people who have helped me improve a work, and I always send decent replies to reviews, even if I am not in agreement with the reviewer. LOL
    December 4 at 1:16PM
Saylea Photography: Really Flight? I did not know that, does not surprise me though, don't get me wrong if its good then obviously, but if not, yea no. I agree Nina, I earn mine the same way, I was on the front page a few times, but come on really, and don't get me wrong if my work is not on there then whatever you know, but even today Ive hit recognized status on 5 different photos alone, and not one is on the front. A bit ridiculous.
    December 4 at 1:18PM
NinaDd: Don't be sad Sinbackk, it is just an opinion, not even necessarily right or wrong. And don't get me wrong, I don't think all the artists in the top tier have bad photos, I just fell like it is hard for everyone to equally or evenly display their works. ;)
    December 4 at 6:10PM
NinaDd: Oops, I meant "I just feel like..." Not "I just fell like..." LOL
    December 4 at 6:12PM
    Echo7: Great points.

I've said this before.....FARs front page should de dominated by todays well recieved. 20 Including Traditional Photography Mixed Media.....& 20 Digital Art & Art

FARs best form of advertising is their front page. Generally if you view a site & the front page is impressive...You join that site.

Due to a subscription charge here at FAR...This should be more important.

I do think this site is very well setup & has a great community.

But disingenious reviewing & leaderboards kill that for me.

Badgers has a great point about artist of the year. The community should decide year ending who is deserving of the award.

Now thats no offence whatsoever to anyone competing at the minute.
    December 4 at 6:48PM
Flight_of_Raven: Sinbackkk - isn't it sad that after all that civil unrest (okay, a little overdramatic), the site still suffers from all the exact same problems??
    December 4 at 11:19PM
P W RYAN: i'm just glad to know i'm not the only one who feels this way!
    December 5 at 8:15AM
NinaDd: So today I decided to go to the bottom of the ranking list and review people from the bottom up - even if the picture only pays 2 cents. That way maybe some other artists will get a chance at having their work reviewed without having to buy a spot at the top. :)
    December 5 at 3:22PM
NinaDd: Okay, yikes, some of that was just plain scary and bad. I am going to keep doing it...cause I am sure I'll find some good stuff. Right?
    December 5 at 3:35PM
Saylea Photography: I would hope so, I found out that when I first post mine are 2 cents too, unless I promote them of course
    December 5 at 6:46PM
NinaDd: Photos that are not being promoted only pay two cents.
    December 6 at 9:41AM
cabobrian: I have just come backto the site after some time and I have just read this string and as Flight_of_Raven pointed out a lot of talent left this site for the same complaints I am reading here. At that time a number of us got together to submit a list of complaints and suggestions for correction to no avail. I see there are still the same people buying their way to the top of the pile. They are encouraged by those who review their work, give them high ratings for mediocre work to get the high value offered for reviewing them. If you make it personal thing to give honest review without being ofraid of offending that may help. Just a thought.
    December 7 at 7:29PM
Saylea Photography: Then I would come off bitchier then I already am lol, I have considered it, there is only really one that does it..but who am I to say things are wrong when I myself am non traditional. One day..when the mood is right..I will have at er lol
    December 11 at 11:31PM

Saylea Photography: Yes, I am such a rule follower! Lmao
December 3 at 9:23AM
Echo7: F*%k the Rules. They were made to be broken.

Echo7: A Legend. A role model to all. Great personality.

Unlike Bill Gates. Who must have spent highschool with his underwear wedged up his arse
    November 29 at 12:28PM

Saylea Photography: Going to try to avoid rating photos that have no artistic anything to them for the sake of getting member dollars, being on the first page is not that important, but there should be some limit to this, come on now the best should be on the front page, not the ones that are worth the most in points/dollars
November 8 at 9:15PM
briansintransit: so agree with you on that,i try to only comment on stuff that i like, rather than the ones that are worth more points, but not easy,as you need dollars to show of your work, but do agree there are some people here that should be on the front level, that i think is the down side, but do also think you can learn a lot on here, and there is such a diversity of subjects on here, and some amazing photographers
    November 11 at 10:05AM
MukeshB: I have to agree with you there. I have only been on the site for a few weeks and it's hard to review some photos. I know we are here to review people's photos, but if I was truthful on some of them, I would probably be hunted down. Even some of the reviews I have already done have given me replies that say "I don't care what you think... I like my photo...blah blah blah." So I just review what I find appealing and if I see a little tweak that could help it I comment.
    November 12 at 7:05PM
tleonard: Lol..I def agree with all the above statements!
    November 17 at 7:29PM

Saylea Photography: 90% of my portrait shots...have just been for practice and experimentation..still to do this day as well
November 8 at 4:48AM
    Sinbackkk: What does that mean?
    November 8 at 6:29AM
Sinbackkk: Your portraits are quite nice.
    November 8 at 6:40AM
Saylea Photography: It means that 90% of the portraits I have done are for practice, just as I stated above and thanks
    November 8 at 11:28AM
    Sinbackkk: OUCH. You're welcome
    November 8 at 2:21PM
ThomSantistevan: Other ten percent must be all you and thats still not bad! Then again I used to draw toons in math class:)
    November 9 at 5:38AM

Saylea Photography: If you are only great at shoot one particular object/subject/scene/niche or whatever you may call it, start looking for something else in life to do. It is about being able to have the eye to do it all..not just one thing
November 2 at 7:43PM
Keri Harrish: I think it's about loving what you do and doing it to the best of your ability. Some people are quite content with their "specialty" and have no desire or need to do it all. Each to their own I say :)
    November 2 at 8:40PM
Saylea Photography: I was saying having the ability to do it all, not many do
    November 2 at 10:26PM
    Sinbackkk: Except you of course!!!!
    November 2 at 11:07PM
ducilla: "The wider you cast your net the more fish you catch"...Ducilla...

I agree about trying to widen your horizons. We can still have a "favorite" subject or setting and still become proficient at other subjects or even genres..
    November 3 at 12:17AM
Sinbackkk: The downside of being better then everyone else is that people tend to assume you're pretentious.
    November 3 at 12:46AM
Keri Harrish: Expanding ones horizons isnt a bad thing. Don't get me wrong but not everyone likes to go fishing lol
    November 3 at 1:24AM
ducilla: Fishing is not for everyone !..But there is always mountain climbing!..
    November 3 at 1:57AM
    Echo7:
I picked up a DLSR for the first time in September 2010. I had only ever used a point & shoot before....& that was just when on holiday. Nothing serious.

I mostly do long exposures & combine that with HDR. At this point in my life i have little interest in portraits, street photography, wildlife etc.

    I enjoy landscape & waterscapes.

On this site alone i've enjoyed many photos by some very talented photographers. Take Michael Collier for instance...he shoots excellent landscapes. Flawless. I wouldnt ask Michael to hang up his camera because he chooses not to shoot portraits or street photography.

    Everyone has their passion.

The point is photography for some is a proffesion & for others a passion & hobby. The reason we have these is because we enjoy them.

Why should someone change or give up what they enjoy because they arent trying ever niche....

Thanks for the honest comments Carl.
    November 3 at 7:54AM
Saylea Photography: Echo I agree with you and experimenting, Badger, ah how is it nonsense? There is nothing wrong with being stuck to a niche, do I believe in it personally, nope not a bit because you will limit yourself and lose out on many things, what I am saying is, master everything out there, even if it is not your thing, and if you can't master everything then why do any of it, I hate doing portrait with a passion, I love landscape, but I work my ass off at portrait because that is the prominent work in my area
    November 3 at 8:00AM
Saylea Photography: And Badger, it is specializing that limits people. Take an actor for instance, they all at some point try different roles instead of sticking to one genre, same thing in a sense.
    November 3 at 8:02AM
Saylea Photography: That is great, I am not talking about them. Not sure why you are so defensive of my opinion, does not really matter, it was a statement that I hold true and always will
    November 3 at 1:08PM
Saylea Photography: I am not talking about specializing in anything else, I am talking about PHOTOGRAPHY, being a PHOTOGRAPHER you should have the eye to photo anything not just ONE thing, I think you are wrong too, I did not say there is anything wrong with staying with one thing, just means you are less talented.
    November 3 at 2:30PM
Keri Harrish: I don't feel as though I've missed out on anything because I like landscapes. It's what gives me joy. I figure if I'm paying for all my photo gear then I get to make my own choices and take pictures of what I like. :)

You like to underexpose and overexpose, maybe you're missing out on traditional photography? Doesn't that seem silly? I sure think so. Who am I to judge?

Saying one is less talented due to shooting a specific subject IS nonsense and not to mention highly rude and unjustified. I realize that statement is your opinion to which you're entitled as I am mine.

I just find it strange that for a photographer who breaks all the rules herself because she likes that type of photography that she would not find some sort of acceptance or understanding towards other persons whom made a choice for the type photography they wish to shoot. Who are you to judge?

    November 3 at 9:52PM
Saylea Photography: You were not a part of the original conversation and frankly he was pissing me off, I am not going to keep repeating myself, as I stated earlier, I dont care what other people do, if you stick to a niche good for you, I was saying that if you are not capable of doing every single type of photography then you may as well find something else to do, same thing I said a few times already, I am not judging anyone,as you stated it is MY opinion and I am allowed to say what I want, obviously the ppl that take it personally and bother to comment are the ones who are offended by it. Everyone should master their craft, not one part of it, if you are going to do something as a professional then make sure you know how to do all of it..not only a fraction of it. Does that make more sense.
    November 4 at 8:24AM
Saylea Photography: Lol I am chilled, sorry you take it that way. Just because I am younger does not mean that I need to wise up, older people have different opinions of things.
    November 4 at 9:42AM

Saylea Photography: so if my photo has reached all time best status, why is it not listed on the front page like other ones of mine have been?
November 1 at 3:11PM

Saylea Photography: Funny, someone rates my photo a 2, with no real issues with the photo, and then all of the sudden they are not a member and I cannot find them, awfully strange
October 27 at 5:03PM
hekartstudio: Had the same experience. Kinda frustrating-HEK
    October 28 at 10:35AM
Jorge Gaete: It happened to me also, go figure.
    October 31 at 10:04AM

Saylea Photography: People really need to understand how I shoot and read descriptions and my bio before they comment, It is really not that difficult
October 26 at 10:03AM
Echo7: Tell me about it. It amazes me how talent goes undiscovered but we find a cat & hald dead mouse funny
    October 26 at 1:31PM
donkeyoatey: I should clarify..You AREN"T jumping on the bandwagon?
    October 26 at 3:46PM
Echo7: Certainly not my friend. Its a sad state of affairs when the front page of FAR becomes a homage to a cat hunting a mouse.
    October 26 at 4:04PM
thumper1024: tyvm for commenting on my photos saylea...im kinda new to this and all helps..u do great work
    October 26 at 4:05PM
avmurray: First of all I would like to say that I actually red your bio Saylea before I reviewed any of your work. That doesn't mean that I automatically agree about how you do your work. Still I think you are a great artist. The second thing I would like to comment on is the cat and mouse photos. I totally agree vith you Echo7, but it must be a lot of people out there that find them pretty fantastic since some of them also end amongst the ten best received. I just refuse to even review them.
    October 26 at 4:24PM
Saylea Photography: Echo I agree and know exactly what you are talking about, Thumper, you are most welcome and thank you for the compliment, don't let others on here scare you away. Also, avmurry, to be honest I don't really care who agrees with what I do or not, Im not here for everyone else and never will be, I was just saying that if ppl do not understand it and are traditional photogs, don't bother commenting on it because it is NOT suppose to be traditional, no one cares for the reg anymore. And I appreciate the kind comments. I agree with you on the cat thing as well and I have rated her on them too lol, of course no one is going to jump on her and say anything unfortunately
    October 26 at 7:46PM
chickadee: A real shame but unfortunately true Saylea! Your work is amazing and hats off to you for bringing something special and wonderful to this site! No cat and mouse in your work thank goodness!
    /Chickadee
    October 30 at 3:21PM

Saylea Photography: Thank you everyone for the kind comments and reviews, it is an honor
