I am so honored and yet still in shock. A big THANK YOU goes to the FAR Committee and to all the wonderful people that supported
my work. Your feedback and kindness is greatly appreciated.
I want to say Congrats to Dr. Carts222, Lorraine Purvi and Amfunny on a job well done.
Further more... this isn't my win, it's the LORDS. For he made this possible!
Many Blessings

I am so honored to have had people on this site review me, while giving me their honest feedback. I've learned a lot because of FAR.
I've come along way and learned a lot of new things on here. I went deeper into myself, allowing my creativity to really explore new territories and to be challenged. Now I'm still learning, and I know some of use are just plain old good. And I hope to one day be just as you as use guys.

steve heathcote : losing power is better than losing your life.makes you make the most of what you have.someone said to me .there is always someone somwhere worse off than youself.
November 20 at 5:42AM
goldie-lopez : I lost more than power... heat, hot water, food and our phones didn't work. My lights didn't came back on until after a week. And everything else was about a two week wait.
Though I did loss a lot of material things, based on the things that were in my basement, if the water would have moved up that one last step... I would be saying a different story.
But I do agree and I stated that within my dedication.

goldie-lopez : When life cuts into your complacent world, you realize your so small compared to who and what is really in control... You sit back and see other people hearts-braking and realize just how important life truly is...
You than evaluate what's important to you...!

It feel like forever... since I've been on this site. I just now got my power back on.
Here in Staten Island, Sandy hit hard.
It's nice to have my lights back instead of living through candle light for about a week.

Getting ready to buy my first DSLR camera...
Anyone have any advice on a good DSLR cameras to look into?
February 24 at 5:55AM
Badger : Concentrate on the range of lenses available rather than the camera body itself, the glass is far more important than the chassis you use. On advice I deliberately chose a chassis with an APS C size sensor but use full frame lenses to eliminate vignetting and reduce distortion at wider angles.
February 24 at 6:42AM
bpzzr : Try the reviews in the better magazines, and remember what it is you are looking for.
Camera chice is like car choice, personal and within budget. The Sony A range is pretty good (bit of bias there unfortunately) most professionals seem to go the Nikon route. Sony have in boddy image stabilisation thus reducing the cost of the lens, however Nikon has a wider range of lenses available.
Read up in the websites and mags.
February 24 at 7:59AM
fotofriend : Since this is your first digital camera, I am guessing you would like to remain rather simple. If that is the case, I previously had a Sony T9, which I miss tremendously. It took great shots, much better than my replacement Sony W330.
If you are going for a more involved camera, then I would agree that the Nikon has a lot to offer and to definitely be aware of the lenses available to grow with as you expand in your photography.
bpzzr is right, first figure out what is the minimum you want, what do you want to do with your camera, how long do you want to keep/use it, and of course your price range. Do check out either magazines or online for comparison reviews. Here is one good site you can check out: http://www.imaging-resource.com/
Have fun shopping!
Cheers, DJ

goldie-lopez : I'm looking into it... thanks for the input guys. I've been reading and I've read that DSLR camera are becoming a thing of the past. Do you think that's true?
February 26 at 9:10PM
anonymous_nothing : What would be the new thing which would replace it? Just wondering. I think DSLR are not going away too soon. What kind of camera do you have now? I use a Canon Rebel T1i... you Canon or Nikon?
April 6 at 9:18AM
goldie-lopez : I've been hearing DSLR are going to be the thing of the past... I don't know how true that is. But that is what I've been hearing!
I hope not though!
Right now I have a Sony cyber shot. Though I'm getting ready to buy a Nikon D7000
April 7 at 4:12AM
anonymous_nothing : Well, I don't see how they could be a thing of the past either. When it comes down to it, it's about the photographer not the camera. Hope you like whatever camera you get!
April 7 at 9:08PM
goldie-lopez : Thank you! I think I will be, happy that is. The baby shot was so cute. The one when she was posing as she was crawling. I really like that one you took.

goldie-lopez :
My thoughts are heavy...
What gives the pictures that clear 3D
effect to them...
in digital photograhys is it the camera or the PS?
Or is it both...
January 5 at 12:01PM
Echo7 : PS....Photoshop?
January 5 at 12:10PM
goldie-lopez : Yes... Photoshop
Do you know?
January 5 at 12:18PM
Echo7 : Yeh, Its both the camera & editing that achieves it.
Firstly the camera....
3D...Dimensions are achieved by having a strong range of midtones, highlights & shadows.
Full frame sensor DSLRs are great at achieving this...Some smaller DSLRs have D-lighting. This handles contrasted areas very well. Adds light to the darker areas.
Now photography is obviousley all about light...Light ranges have values...Known as EV-Exposure Value
A single camera exposure will capture on average 4-5 EV. The human eye see's on average 24EV.
Taking multiple exposures & layering them together increases the overall EV range. Thus giving a full range of midtones, shadows & highlights...much closer to what the eye sees. & there you will have strong contrasts....3D.
Now your camera aperture is also your best friend when it comes to dimensions. Make sure your using the right width of aperture to allow for a sufficient depth of field.
When your using Photoshop. Either in Camera RAW or Adjustments...You can change the values of your shadows, midtones & highlights. This gives your work depth. I do alot of HDR...i use on average 12 exposures...So i get a very full range. Works very well.
Hope that helps
