Janice has been working as an artist, designer and photographer for over 20 years. She has won a number of awards in the UK craft industry.

    jangill: I have noticed on this site more than one instance where a third party work has been used to create a new one and then listed as their own work. The myth surrounding this practise is that it is legal. According to my understanding of copyright law signed up to by 164 countries of the Berne convention it is not.
    I quote....
    6.
    The act of copying or adapting someone elseā??s work is a breach of copyright. Also any adaptation will be legally regarded as a derived work; so if you simply adapt the work of others, it will still be their work, and they have every right to object, (and are also entitled to any money you make from their work).
    The only safe option is to create something that is not copied or adapted from the work of others.
    There is nothing to stop you being inspired by the work of others, but when it comes to your own work, start with a blank sheet and do not try to copy what others have done....
    If anyone can set me straight here I would be most grateful.

    muradbaluch: I do agree jangill the practice of using third party works is wrong. I sincerely hope those in such practice will understand and stop this rather risky practice and come up with their own original work.
