AlanJay: Decided that this site is not really worth paying for. It seems that anyone can get a top image if they are prepared to pay enough and sweet talk enough guidable members to vote.
Actually, the free membership is more expensive than it is worth!

It also appears that to fit in on this site one must give every image a 5 at least, or be accused of 'marking down' etc. Please, do get real people. When I need to buy popularity in that way, I'll give up.

Just for the record, I have reviewed the scores I gave out and definitely did not under score a single image.

The two images I uploaded were carefully chosen, neither was the finished piece. Lucy was justly marked quite highly, though did have a deliberate mistake in it. I would have marked such an image submitted by anyone else as a 5. The finished image was slightly better and fitted the brief, thus was used by the client.

Vikki, was a scan of a 7.5 x 5 print, (the photo was taken long before I had a digital camera), exposed onto Fuji 100 ASA film, f11 in studio. The finished image has been my most popular of the last 18 years.
I would have marked the image I presented on here at about 3.5.

Of course art is subjective and I do genuinely appreciate the higher ratings given. Far, far more than those I really appreciate the comments made. They are not tainted by the 'standard scoring' of the site and in some cases were far higher quality than I had any hope or right to expect. I shall keep all of them.

AlanJay: I started taking photos in the mid 70s, but really only started to make serious improvements when I bought an SLR camera. Later I joined a photographic club where entering competitions helped me progress and the other members helped me still more. I shall remember those days very fondly forever.

When I was elected president of the club, it fell upon me to also start judging competitions, both in the club and externally. This was when I realised just how difficult it is to give an honest opinion, in a constructive manner.
