The PixelArtisan, (Russ), is a digital artist with a strong passion for realism. His paintings often include dramatic skies, articulate lighting and are always highly detailed. All of his digital works are created exclusively with Photoshop. Each painting generally requires between 50 and 100 hours to complete and are up to 96 inches wide or high. There are never any imported images, scans or other software used in his paintings. Some paintings are from cherished memories, some are his portrayal of specific locations while others are totally imaginary. For the more complex realism paintings he may use a reference photo for specific elements but never copies or duplicates the photo. He always adds his own touches to make each element unique. Russ has developed a seminar for digital fine art that he presents to art societies and galleries. He has his works on display at several regional galleries, at malls and other commercial locations. Russ was recently awarded an Honorable Mention by the Museum of Computer Art in Brooklyn NY, placing forth out of 138 entries. Digital fine art is on the rise!!

Hi Gang, I have not been around here much but I do check in on occasion. I opened an Art Gallery and Artist Services Center, Russell's Atelier, and it has eaten up most of my available time. The Atelier (French for artist workshop) features art reproductions, Giclee prints, other print services, matting, framing and many other vital artist services. Take a peek at my Facebook page.
I have been trying to paint but just cannot seem to focus on that right now. I turn 72 this week...my friend are wondering why I would start another biz at this stage in my life. Simple answer...I love starting new ventures.
Cheers y'all, Russ Cleversley

Thanks for the congratulations. I was surprised and disappointed that the voting was not closer. There were some beautiful contenders and the competition continues to get better. The 2nd place "Blue Butterfly" by Lindansteph and 3rd place "Beginnings" by Carolisa were excellent and deserving of a better fate. Winning a contest is something that everyone will hopefully experience at least once. If winning a contest is important to you then you must always post your absolute best effort. It is very uplifting and inspiring to win but the learning experiences are where the true value resides. Thanks again. Russ Cleversley

Hi everyone, thanks for the congratulations. The competition is getting hotter every month. It has been exciting to see the community of 2D digital artists continue to grow. I arrived at FAR in 2007, at a time when 2D digital art was in its infancy and there were just a precious few who were using that medium. Today, there are many artists who have found the joy of the digital medium and are posting some impressive paintings. Winning a contest is nice but seeing other artists reach new heights of competence is priceless. Thanks again, Russ Cleversley

Hi guys 'n gals. I have been somewhat "under the weather" lately...had medical emergency. There was lots of internal bleeding going on, rushed to ER, blood count at dangerous low levels, 14 hours of transfusions, endoscopy with biopsies and they put a cork in a hole in my stomach. BUT, I am feeling much improved. Now I am on weekly injections of B12 and daily doses of iron. The docs figured that the bleeding was going on for several months. If it had gone much longer there would have been serious consequences. It is amazing how good I feel. My deterioration was slow that it was not apparent until I finally went to my gastro doc. He immediately said I looked anemic, sent me for a blood test, called at 6am the next morning and said to get to the ER immediately. I don't know who's blood was pumped into me but it was a great vintage!! So...back to the mundane life of all work and no play. LOL!!

The cat in the hat on aging: I cannot see, I cannot pee I cannot chew, I cannot screw, Oh my gosh what can I do? my memory shrinks, my hearing stinks, no sense of smell, I look like hell, My mood is bad---can you tell? my body's drooping, have trouble pooping, The golden years have come at last, The golden years can kiss my ass.

I am finally a somebody!! Yahoooie!! Ooppps, sorry, I shall try to maintain a semblance of humility. Thanks again everyone. Your thoughts are truly appreciated. Russ Cleversley

Hi gang, I have not been around much lately...had some injury issues that needed to get resolved. This past December I fell and severely tore up my left shoulder. Since then, my ability to paint and move were substantially restricted. I finally had surgery on March 26th, met with the surgeon this AM and will start the long process of rehabilitation. He says that it may take a year to regain full use of the arm. My arm will be immobilized for another 5 weeks...then the rehab starts. I did not appreciate the simple things in life until now. Doing everything one-handed is challenging. I am typing with one finger...what a joy that is!! LOL!! I looked through my paintings and found some that were not posted at FAR...I may toss a few out there over the next few days. Cheers everyone.
April 7 at 11:24AM
ducilla : It is just nice to see your smiling face Russ!!!! Glad you are finally on the road to recovery and the only way to look is up!.. I had a similar type injury to my knee many years ago and could not walk for six months..Its the little things in life we take for granted at times..(peeing standing up comes to my mind !..lol..) Take care of the arm and post away..I will be happy to see them!....Dennis

Alexemch : Hello Russ just noticed your posting. I do hope that you will soon be feeling better and that your shoulder will heal well allowing you to show us all some more of your incredibly enjoyable art. I had issues with gout in my hand 2 years ago and was unable to use it for a few months so I know what a 'joy' typing with one hand (and the left had at that!)is. Just get better and please do post some of your work which we have not already seen and I look forward to it greatly. All the best Alex x

Mike Roberts : Bro Russ, none of us should have to stress out over life situations that are beyond our control. After all there is a reason for everything under the sun. Everything, everything is planned and initiated by the Creator. It is all a test that is specially prescribed for our spiritual edification. The best that any one of us can do IS our best. In that respect, how can anyone, even those whom we owe criticize us? Misfortune makes us better and fortune makes us worse. I know that you will do your best to be E=MC2 with the universe and give each and every their due as it becomes reasonable and possible. Ha, I learned those latter 2 terms from the legal system. But here is a major heap of prayers and good will to you from my heart and soul my brother. May you overcome, prosper, and stay on top, as you already are in so many of our (friends and members) opinions! Your creativity will boom! Be patient, determined, and ENJOY your life and challenges.
BroMike

I am so sorry, I hope you are on the mend now, I have had numerous health problems through the years, I have been in a wheelchair twice, but the good lord, prayers, and the will to overcome obstacles will help you to gain back your health. You are such a nice man, my prayers are with you. Welcome back. Vickie
