Ambiguous Stare...

This is a portrait of a friend of mine whose stare I can only describe as being the most ambiguous I've come across. This singular expression often makes an appearance when she is startled by something I've said or done and I often find I have to take my chances when interpreting whether she is intensely displeased, casually indifferent or exceedingly in agreement with the action that brought on the look. I took this photograph during one of such moments and was delighted to have caught the half dark, half light portrait which I hope I've done justice to in this portrait and which I hope helps illustrate the idea behind it's creation.
