Mixed Media: None | I think this was in August. Tierra Contenta is at the southern end of Santa Fe. I am lucky to have a balcony off my bedroom and I get up often before the sunrise. Don't need much sleep these days. At times the clouds are just thin and thick enough to give just about any color or color combination one could imagine. I think it has to do with Santa Fe being 7000 feet above sea level. This was such a morning.

Color Pink Art Contest Contest Entry
As stated in the short description I saw this pink sunrise one morning. It stuck in my mind until I decided what style I wanted to paint it in. I chose to do it with pallet knives struck over the color blended background I did for the sky. As usual I did the sky first and let it dry in between the different colors because I wanted only a few spaces of blended color to give the idea of some small feeling of unity of colors in the sky with most of it separate and distinct forms and shapes to create the drama of this pink sunrise. I also chose to make the land masses recognizable enough to see a landscape but abstract enough to match the power of the sky. It took a couple of months to complete this painting. Since I do not complete a painting or drawing before I start another piece of work, my studio is filled with paintings in different stages of development. That gives me the freedom to keep working while some paintings are drying, some needing additional thought, some waiting for me to figure out what kind of frame it needs and some just waiting for a do-over or the scrap pile. I think this one was finished for about five years before I figured out what kind of frame it needed. The painting is 24 by 36 inches and just commands attention. I kind of stumbled upon the frame after trying several different types. It seemed to demand an ornate gold gilded frame. So, it is now done, gold frame and all. I like it.
