Juvenile Cedar Waxwing

Waxwing Jr.

This is a juvenile Cedar Waxwing. They get their name from the red, wax-like tips on the secondary flight feathers. Juveniles do not have the red tips on their secondary feathers, yellow wing patches, or cinnamon coloring until after they reach adulthood. They do have the yellow tipped tail. These guys are smaller than the Bohemian Waxwings and not as grey. Bohemians do not have the yellow tinge underneath like the Cedar Waxwings do.
