I liked how the wingtips touched the water as this Great Blue Heron took flight.
Skimming low over the water's surface is a common flight technique for birds. Skimming allows them to take advantage of an aerodynamic phenomenon known as "ground effect." This maneuver reduces drag by modifying the airflow patterns around the wing.
