Lunar Eclipse

Super Blood Wolf Moon

Here in Minnesota we had a small band of clouds around the moon last night, so most of the first half of the eclipse didn't turn out tack sharp, but once the moon was in the Penumbra stage towards the end of the eclipse, the clouds passed and it was clear sailing :) It was also a cold 1 degree, brrrr!

This year's first eclipse will be the only total eclipse of this year and it has a rather prestigious title: Super Blood Wolf Moon. This is for three reasons, first, it's Super because the moon is at perigee (the moon is at it's closet approach to the Earth) so it appears bigger. Second, it's Blood because it's a total lunar eclipse. Third, it's Wolf because it is a full moon in January, named after the howling wolves.
