Although Blue Jays are common in North American cities and suburbs they are also found in abundance on all kinds of forest edges. They are most likely to be found near oak trees.

Blue jays have an area in their throat and upper esophagus called a gular pouch, where they can carry food. They can fit several pieces of food (usually acorns and other nuts) in their pouch while also carrying one in their mouth. I have seen them hold several peanuts in their pouch and mouth before flying off.
