I found Sheffield a very green city indeed after Scunthorpe, which was a pure steelworks town, where we lived under the huge salt and pepper pots. Masses of trees everywhere, they say one million in all, one for every member of the population. I lived around the corner to a lovely park area and the local Museum. I don't drive, so walked through daily to get to town and walked many miles through more parks to get to the Art College, which was on the other side of the city. Not only that, as my ex had walked out on us after 25 yrs of marriage leaving us penniless in a strange city, to get my equilibrium back, at first I just sat there, looking at the green water, and it really was and is green probably from the reflections of all the green grass all around it, as it lies in a dip. Then later, taking a sketch book, Hence, I have numerous drawings of that area of Sheffield from the first ten years after moving here, which is my way of acquainting myself with a new area. Now a days I draw mainly people. I find them much more difficult to understand.
