On the mainland Ria Formosa are lots of small villages with traditional unaltered buildings . Their cafes also sell beer, wine and spirits including their own home made aquedenti made from figs .. a sort of snaps but stronger often taken neat with bicca coffee, a very small strong black coffee. This is a typical cafe. I was commissioned to do a painting of this 3 years go. The original had no people. I had a blockage making it complete. I took it to Germany over the Christmas period and eventually was satisfied it was ok. However I did a second exactly the same and this time painted in people. When I delivered it the family wanted both, they had had a tragedy and one was no longer. One of the people I had painted I was told was a double. And also one of the owners had a red hat just like that in the painting. I have never experienced anything like this and often wonder about that blockage I had.
