There are 25 species of Chipmunks in North America. We have two types of chipmunks in Minnesota, the Least and the Eastern. This one is a Least Chipmunk which is the smallest of all chipmunks.
The tell tale sign to determine the type of chipmunk is in the stripes. The Eastern Chipmunk's stripes stop at the rump, while the Least Chipmunk's stripes go down their backs all the way to the base of the tail. This guy reminded me of a cat from behind.
