I based this quick sketch on a tracing of a photo of my chestnut stallion, Oriental Gold, and colored it black and changed the markings. While doing this, I remembered that the farm next door to where my father-in-law bought my mare, Mi Bright Song, for me and my husband, who knew very little about horses at the time, the famed star of the Black stallion movie (by Francis Ford Copolla,) Cass Ole, stood at stud. My father-in-law would have bought me one of Cass Ole's beautiful black daughters, but since I noticed that they tended to have a slightly clubbed front hoof, I declined. I have always liked black horses though, and sometimes thought I was too picky; sometimes I half wish I had settled for one of the black fillies instead of the better conformed chestnut daughter of National US Top Ten Mi Tosk... For the movie, Cass Ole's white markings were dyed black and his mane and coat enhanced in various ways. He was a very gentle stallion, and very good sized for an Arabian.....
