20 X 20 watercolor on canvas board

I am experimenting with non traditional surfaces for watercolors. For this composition I used a triple primed canvas board. I do not recommend this as a surface as the watercolors do not blend as well as they would on traditional watercolor papers. Even though I struggled to get the effects I wanted I toughed it out and completed the piece. Once I was satisfied that it was done I signed it and then polished the surface with cold wax using a cotton rag paper towel (I find the Viva brand to be the best for this purpose). The wax creates a waterproof surface that will allow the piece to be framed without glass. This creates significant savings during the framing process. I am going to prep the canvas board with watercolor ground before I start my next piece to see how that works out.
