A Story To Tell Contest Entry
This is a shot of a 24 mile traffic backup. I went to Maine with my brother and his wife for the 4rth of July when they open their cabin for the summer. It's a long trip about 6 hours or more. T We were returning home on Sunday to New Hampshire USA when we ran into 2 traffic backups. The first backup was only about 20 min. and was caused by a single car that caught fire. We don't know what happened but the fire was out, the occupants gone and only the Police and Fire Department remained there. We hoped the occupants had safely gotten out of the car. Not to long after that we ran into another traffic backup. The image I'm showing you is that backup. We were on a bridge and I shot the picture thru the opposite window of the car. Waze ( a GPS system) said the backup was 24 miles long. With a trip that takes so long this was the one thing we didn't want to face. Our 6 hour trip turned into 9 hours. We never got to the accident itself. With all the stopping and 15 to 20mph driving we exited the highway before we came across it, to find another way home. At that time there was still no end to the traffic ahead of us. It was a holiday weekend and everyone was heading home at the same time. We left at 9 am and got to my brother's home around 6 pm. My brother thought we were leaving early enough to avoid the traffic. Not So! Hope you find the image interesting, The long drive was something else! Thanks for stopping by!
