I was in Washington for a poetry convention. I could never afford the hotels they put forward, so would look for a motel. Now I have to tell you, motels in the USA are very clean and very good value, The only thing which upset me is that I would switch the tv off when I went out, they always came in to make the beds etc and switched it on again and lights. Dreadful waste of power. This however meant I was usually on the outskirts of the city and had to travel a fair bit, in this case the last station on the train in, then once in on the underground. The silver lining was that I got to know the places extremely well. This particular time, I was wondering round Washington looking for cheap food and found this gate! There are gates and there are Gates, and this is a:' look at me, arn't I fantastic' gate!
