The Color Red - Photography (a) Contest Entry
Photo of a red trillium (Trillium erectum) that I photographed a couple of years ago. Red trillium is a perennial wildflower that appears in the springtime in deciduous woodlands. The single flower has an unpleasant scent, and is pollinated by flesh flies and carrion beetles. It is therefore also known as Ill-Scented Trillium,Stinking Benjamin, and Stinking Willie. The root was traditionally used as an aid in childbirth, and Native Americans used root tea for menstrual disorders,to induce childbirth, and to aid in labor. Image was cropped and slightly sharpened.
