Orchids [Orchidaceae] are a diverse and widespread family of flowering plants. The Orchid family includes about 28,000 species in 763 genera. Although small and inconspicuous species are known, most blooms are colorful and fragrant. In the 1900?s many tropical species were introduced to cultivation. It is said that more than 100,000 hybrids and cultivars exist today.

This painting was created in two layers. The background was tinted black with the paint roller. Then small spots of white paint were applied, and texture added with the palette knife. The Orchids were painted on a second layer. Finally, the two layers were merged.
