Another cardinal plucking up his favorite seeds.

This is one of about a dozen cardinals that have been enjoying the easy meals lately. As is common with most species, the cardinals have their favorite morsels among the seed buffet set out before them. Several of the male cardinals will takes what they doesn't like and toss it aside. I caught him with what appears to be one of the last safflower seeds available. It is fascinating to watch them crack open the seeds, eat the nut, and spit the shells all over the place.
