I'm no artist but what a compelling image. I like the textures that jump out at you. The balance in the image vis a vis the rocks and lifeboat. It is uncanny. I do like the subtle color palette which at the same time communicates the rage that the sea can hold. An absolute pleasure to view.

I think we can regard this work as a product of "primitive style." This is not an insult by any definition. Indeed, "primitive art", recognized by its highly impressionistic broad-brush characteristics was vastly popularized by the famous American "highwayman" artist of the 1930's and 1940's. Even with primitive style, however, there must be a strict application of structure in art. By structure, I mean the appropriate application of the properties of physics, proper use of medium, composition and linear precision. In this work there is some evidence of color contamination (muddiness), the light ambiance and shadow demarcations are not necessarily consistent with your background sunset and your distant water horizon is far too irregular even for an impressionist work. Otherwise, this is quite a remarkable piece.--Dr. Carlton

Thank you for your opinion. I've had no formal training with the use of oils.

Nicely done. I like the lighting as well as the action of the waves. Great choice in colors as well. I thought the land may have better definition but all in all very well done.

Hi again Suzanne. This is lovely. I like the realism to it, these conditions are most likely to be happening when a life boat is out. Well done on a lovely work. K.

Love the colors here and the contrast is perfect. I can almost feel the water spray and would love to run my hands over the texture. Great work on the clouds and how the rock leads you in. Well done

I'm sure you'd like oil paints - they're easier to correct than watercolour! Yes, it can be quicker in paint than with pencil though with oils you have sometimes to wait for it to dry before you can do some more. However, with quick drying medium it's not too bad. This one took a few hours - I never complete one in one go - usually go back the next day and add more. No, I've not sold anything on this site yet. Don't mind answering questions and many thanks for your review. Suzanne

Very Well Done!!! Beautiful colors, textures, brush strokes. Good balance of objects for perspective. I love the sunset and the rocks. Great waves. For me waves are still a challenge, so I always appreciate someone who can do them well. And I really like the sky. The sun setting on the horizon with all it's hues and good definition with the clouds. Thanks so much for sharing
I would give it more than a 5, but that's all I had to choose from.

It is not easy to paint water and make it look real. But you have caught the action of the wave and you can almost hear them splashing. The choice and rendering of the right colors is great.
