I think I know the author of this one.
Good strong colour coupled with fine detail in the plumage lift this image.The background is sufficiently out of focus not to distract. But I would have cloned the bit of straw on his lower beak. Mitch

This is an excellent close up of the gorgeous Red Cardinal and a great entry for the contest. I like the angle you caught him at. The softened background makes a perfect frame. Lighting and focus very good showing great detail. Very nice composition.

This image does well meet the contest definition and is also very up close and personal.
Nice composition, nice pose with the subject looking right at the camera and appearing very alert. Nice sharpness with the eye in good focus. Good soft complementary colored background. Good initial image appeal.

This is very nice. I really like the detail and textures of the cardinal. The colors are so vibrant and really jump out at you. The composition is good. Maybe a little more offset? Not really required but just a thought. Good luck.
