This is spectacular. I love the angle, the blurred reflection and background, the wonderful green to show off the grays and whites of this flying creature. Beautiful take. Excellent technical skills.

The picture is amazing sharp on the heron, but it is the wonderful blurred background and the fantastic reflection that make this way over the top. I do not have any six's left but this certainly deserves way better than a five. I wish you all the best in the contest, this should be if not a winner a darned strong contender! DonkeyOatey

The picture is amazing sharp on the heron, but it is the wonderful blurred background and the fantastic reflection that make this way over the top. Thank you for posting the most beautiful Bird pictures. If you think of it when posting could you please tell us a little about the lenses that you use. Do you have to use a BLIND to get close enough. I was thinking of using a wireless trigger and mounting the camera near a bait box of some kind. Go to see you posting again. BOB

Thank you so very much for a great review and high score! I use an Olympus E3 camera with a 70/300mm lens. For the birds I use a blind but for Herons I just sit on the bank and wait for them to show their self and do something.

Thank you for the reply. I have always thought that the quality of the picture is mostly a function of quality lenses. What do you think? Also, have you been able to sell any of your pictures through this sit?

The lens is a major factor but getting the right subject to do the right thing is key. i have not sold a thing here or on any web site. I am on Viewbug now and hope to sell some there. I have been able to sell some at our local meusem in their store. They have also used some to make a muriel in one of their displays which was a great honor for me!

It has been very silent from your side lately, and then you turn up with this lovely photo of a Heron in flight. I really like the reflections from the trees which has given the lake such a lovely green color, and you also have captured the shine of it so well. The flying bird is standing out from all this in an excellent way. Needless to say that the reflection from the bird itself is excellent.
Your photo is of course also nice and sharp showing clear and well defined details all over, and the exposure is spot on.
The composition is very strong with the bird well placed within the frame and given enough room to fly into. This is indeed a well taken photo with a good stop action, and I wish you luck with the contest.
