A fantastic and sharp shot of this skinny and complex Damselfly, perched delicately to this Barberry twig - you're right they are alien like, such strange design but clearly efficient and somewhat graceful too - shot with great clarity and good DOF, showing the colour of the creature well and contrasting wonderfully with the pink of it's perch. Interesting and informative narrative to accompany it too - great shot and best of luck in the competition! :)

Quite a beautiful nature shot presented here. Your excellent composition grants us a good look at both your bloom and insect. Sharpness and exposure are fine. Well done!

You captured some very nice detail. I like the markings and coloring of this gal. Those blue spots on her head look like she has eyes in the back of head - must be a mom :) I think a bit less light in the lens would have brought out more color of the plant. I like how some of the texture can be seen. Great close up. Your notes are super informative too.

You are welcome. The lighter spots on the flowers could be toned down in post processing too. Anyway - the damselfly is great! :)

I think you have captured this damselfly really well with this macro shot, and I also like very much the colors of the Barberry twig because it gives the photo such a delicate look. The background looks great with a slight bokeh, and when nicely softened like this both the twig and the insect are standing out in an excellent way.

Your focus is nice and sharp and it is clear and well defined details to be seen all over. I also think the exposure is good.

The format and the cropping has worked well and the damselfly has got a very good placement within the frame. Indeed a lovely and well taken photo with a very good DOF, and I wish you luck with the contest.

good focus and details, but the light is too bright, try to reduce the brightness, it may also reduce the noise on the background

nice position of the dragonfly in the frame

thanks for sharing

Thank you for educating us, and kind of you to post that information about this little Damsel Fly.

Also thank you for your camera specs. Shutter Speeds, Apertures And ISO. The speed of 1/200 worked for you. As the fly is sharp in your image I am assuming that you kept the body of the damselfly parallel with the back of the camera, thereby minimizing the amount of depth of field needed.

The shot is strong, focal point dead sharp, dof appropriate to show environment.

Your format, long vertical was the only way to go to maximize the beauty of your subject.

TOP MARKS

PS These are not easy to photograph and you did an exquisite job on this.

With that kink in its body it looks like this one might actually be in distress. A nicely composed shot with great colors. Best of luck in the contest.

Thanks for reviewing. No distress at all. The damselflies are known for being able to contort themselves. They are much more flexible than dragonflies. I could show you some really cool ones sometime. Enjoy the weekend.

A great macro of this Damselfly. I know they are difficult to capture especially at such a close range. The sharp focus on the insect is particularly well done. The colors on the head and eyes attracts the attention immediately. The brightness of the Barberry branch takes a bit away from the main subject but not so much as to be overly distracting. A great entry for the contest ~ Steve
