A cyber six, Mike. Congratulations on your MUCH deserved win. I love this composition. The snow has created a beautifully, soft scene...with the curves of grasses breaking through. Your use of what is negative space is artfully accomplished.

Your crane is beautiful...in color, clarity and posture. It is a complete pleasure to view him. You have captured that all important red in his eye and that bit in his wing. That is just enough to add some splash with finesse. The posture of the crane is the initial impact for me. That lifted foot is almost saying, "Crap, my feet are cold!" Love it! Congrats again!

This is a great photo. The details in the feathers is outstanding. I like how you caught him with the one foot in the air, and the other deep in the snow. The white snowy background highlights the bird portrays the snowy scene. The simplicity of it works nicely for the composition. Great contest entry and winner in my book.

Thank you very much. Last winter they did not leave my place until January 3. There were only a couple times that we got heavy snow and I was fortunate to get several nice shots. Glad you like this one. Thanks again.

Oh this is a wonderful image!

What timing...you not only got him w/ his head turned but w/ that one foot in the air...nicely done. Focus on this fellow from the back is CRISP. You really captured marvelous detail in those feathers along his back but head and neck are also well detailed. Excellent natural color in your Crane...again in those feathers but also nicely caught the color around the eye and that crazy eye color itself.

Well exposed...especially considering all the whiteness surrounding him....can't imagine it was easy to get this guy as well as you did. Also btw, I really like the tall pieces of grasses bent over in front of him. Nicely cropped...tall vertical format was needed and you gave him plenty of head room this time...lol

I think I like everything you've done here...quite a lot actually. Getting my vote and hope YOU and your snow walker do well in the contest....so gets my vote and a gold star. Very nicely put together image.

Thank you very much. Last year they did not leave my yard until January 3, but up until the time they left we only had a couple substantial snow falls. This one seems a bit bewildered by the snow but keeps plodding on. Don't we all. Thanks again.

Plodding on is a perfect description for the way you've showed this guy...lol and yes, he does look bewildered. You are very welcome....it's a really good shot.

the bird is saying.."heck with this im heading south!!" wink..lol..he can come down and join the rest of the snowbirds..even the ones without feathers..evil grin..lol. the clarity is great. the angle of the shot of this poor bird in the snow is great. the capture of the light is great. the image is balanced and eye interesting to the viewer. good eye and great job overall

Hi Anon

Wow! THis is brilliantly one sir/ma'am. It looks like a painting because the pose is quite unreal. Well done on capturing it and all the best in the contest! R

Quite a nice entry into the competition posted here! Your classic composition allows us a good look at the bird. Your settings have provided lots of enjoyable detail in the sand crane. Just a bit puzzled by the appearance of the background? Well done and good luck!

An out of the box capture! I like the interplay of white against the sharp image of the bird. . You have framed it well. The light and dark and the composition have worked out well. Good luck!
