Okay, when I first saw this I thought it was an extreme close up of a bug.
I see it's dogwood, which I really love.
The use of dramatic color values and DOF in this is really awesome. I can actually see this as a base for a really nice stained glass piece ala arts and crafts style.
Well done.

I think you may have been a little to close losing your Clarity. Also, There are some places on the buds where you have over exposure and lose the details. You should try again when the sun isn't so bright. Either first thing in the Morning or Evening time is when I shoot. That Sun sure can cause a problem with a good photo. Thank you for Sharing :)

This is an excellent close up of this dogwood bud. I think your choice is framing has given your colors and textures a very artistic feel. You are always good at that in your compositions. I like that diagonal patch of light green moving through your center...giving a good dof to these flower petals and of course that single bud. Nice work. Interesting and artistic. thanks for sharing!

Well ok.........Nice idea. I do think you needed to back away some in order to super soften that background. As it is, there is too much going on, making it difficult for the viewer to focus on the buds. The color palette is nice and I thank you for your informative notes.

Not quite sure what you were trying for here meg, only saying that as the buds were the main focus but are slightly soft and bright and the leafs are quite overbearing in this, think you needed a slightly different perspective in this one...brian

Interesting angle on this. The main bud at the front looks a little soft. was this the focus point, as it looks like the focus is on the front leave in the middle? Have you tried selecting the focus point for the part of the image you want when taking the photo? I like the colours and the DOF that is with this image, and the lighting looks good as well. Well done :-)

nice angle of shot, but the central fruit is too bright, even a bit overexpose and this takes from the initial impact

also, the left leaf is too big and pulls the viewer eyes to it

thanks for sharing
