Wow, quite the catch! Definitely haven't ever seen a woodpecker on the ground, or even up close. I love the composition and contrast. The leaf in the foreground really adds to the depth. Gorgeous details. Really beautiful!! :)

Yes it is rare, love the details and textures you have captured in the feathers and it's nice red top of its head, very good eye caught also, a pleasure to look at, thank you for sharing, dale

For me it's a treat to see this type of a woodpecker, and if this is like the downy, it is a rare sight indeed! This is well photographed with good focus, the image is clear, well controlled exposure, colors and tones appear natural. Nice detail throughout including good eye contact, I like this pose with the turned head, this bird has such a long, thin neck ! Well composed to show it's surroundings on the ground. Well presented!

A quite nice entry into the competition presented here. I must agree with you about not seeing them very often on the ground. Your image is well composed, sharp and has good exposure. Well done and good luck!

A fantastic stop action picture of the Pileated Woodpecker on the ground head turned watching you over it's shoulder it's eye catching red cap raised. Beautiful composition framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

It's a nice capture. Maybe it's just the way it was shot but the background looks like it has a little noise to it. It could be just my screen. Otherwise it's in clear focus and this looks like a young one. Colors are great and I love how he is looking over his shoulder. Pileated woodpeckers are very hard to get photos of to begin with. Nice job!!

That is such a great picture. I love the colors that are detailed and you can tell by the surroundings the have not been doctored they seem very natural. I love birds they each have their own personality. Thank you for brightening our day with your rare find.

I wonder if the woodpecker found some insects down there on the ground. This is a cleverly caught, clear close up photo of a hard to photograph species. My admiration! Daphne Oberon
