I have two or three FAR friends now in Michigan and have decided it has lovely climate and nature there. I love this, you expect these sorts of birds with long, thin legs to live in warm places and can only wonder how the severe cold affects those thin, spindly legs. Yet I have seen films /from Japan/ where they leap about in the snow..

thanks There are only a handful of different cranes in the world. Those black and white ones in Japan are fantastic. Maybe someday I will get to see them in person.

I do hope so..

A beautiful picture of this pair of Sandhill Cranes standing in the shallows looking down onto the snow covered bank. Falling snow adding a misty haze to the background. Beautiful composition framing and sharp lighting taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus.

The title is perfect for this picture. It makes me feel very cold and sorry for the cold birds. But I love the snow in the front and how it's not in focus and the way the birds are.

This is an awesome entry for the contest as it tells the story of the snow signaling the time to move on to a warmer place. This is well photographed with good focus, the image is clear, exposure is well managed in this lighting, the colors and tones appear natural, perfect white exposure. I like the falling snow and the details that are easily seen in both of the Sandhill Cranes. Well composed and presented! Best wishes to you in the contest!

And I don't blame them either - they should really be in Wilcox, Az where it's probably warm and lots of their friends are there. Great capture of this wintry scene. Best of luck in the contest.

Thanks At least you don't have to shovel the rain.
