Ah, the red contest. Yes, really vivid sunset. I have been a member of FanArt for many, many years, more years than I care to remember and never bothered with contests. I am not wondering whether to bother with them anymore, as I have learnt that one person judging has a particular dislike for me /more of those foreigners??/ even though I have been here most of my life and everyone knows, so have missed a third or two. I don't like being disliked when they don't know me face to face, it is so utterly cowardly and as a Hungarian Ethnic, I despise cowardice above all else. I love your photo, we have practically no red here at the moment, or yellow, all is grey. I suppose I could turn a photo red on the Edit. But for me, that is not what I do is about, it is about what is 'interesting', not artificially mashing up picts to fit into an artificial slot, nor worrying about others problems /why is your devil a darker Jew than Jesus ? huh? I honestly don't have time for such petty thoughts, but as a former teacher, I should be used to idiots, you should listen to some parents!!/ Portugal looks a pretty intersting place.

Thank you for your review. Your insights are very interesting. The original of this was i think better more red and vibrant however reviewers said they could see yellow so i had to edited it out for the comp. I like entering them it seems to attract more comments and to continually promote is costly and for what? Peoples opinions of oneself are only of interest to the oponionator and one should not let their thoughts about you impede your own person. People are people, variation exists in all forms of life. A dull world if it was not so. So be who you are, you express it in your art. Colourful life. Enjoy.

I like the sun star at the top of the mast, especially since you used a phone. Are you able to control the aperture? Also, I like the follow through of reflection from the sun. Composition is very nice also.

Thank you for your revuew. The aperture cannot be controlled manually but settings can be chosen and they will then be automatic. I should be grateful for your further insights on how this image can be improved as suggested by the rsting. I am more an artist than photographer so any tips are looked for in this learning curve.

Yes, nice photo. And photography does have a steep learning curve. It was just a little not sharp, that's why I was asking.

A beautiful & atmospheric picture of these silhouetted sailboats yachts at anchor against the setting sun as it burst through the clouds it's rays like points on a star in the red tinted sky that is reflected onto the surface of the glistening sea in the foreground, Artistic composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.
Good luck in the contest.

You did a great job on capturing the boats and the sunburst over the boats. The vignetting is a bit to much for me, but I can really appreciate the red hues. Gives it a smoky look (as you said). I think it would look amazing on a poster. Good luck on the photo contest. You have a great chance.

Thank you for your complimentary review it is much aoprrciated. This version has been edited back over. I liked my first version which was more shades of a real red. But I had reviewers who
Said there was yellow in it thus making the shot out of rule for the comp. Good luck appreciated also.

This is beautiful. I think you're right about far off fires causing the red sunset. And they rings around the setting sun. I get that at my place when Victoria or Vancouver BC is on fire. Incredible how when contaminated sky can create wildly colorful effects. It makes me wonder about the Aurora lights. I've read years ago it was from increased amount of radon at the Northern arctic. This photo would make a great blown up, framed portrait. Um sure your painting is just as lovely.

Thanks so much.. Great insight comments appreciated. I did blow this up in my painting of natural colours to A2. It's quite impressive. I have it on my wall in my studio and it attracts a lot of attention. I might do what you suggest and get one done of the photo of the red sunset.

This is a beautiful photograph at sunset with the sun behind the mast in the foreground. I like the number of masts that are displayed here, making the whole picture very dramatic. Well done. Good luck in the contest!

The boats are placed perfectly and the starburst pattern really sets this apart. The fires, though probably not a great thing, did lend a positive note in the form of the color.

Thank you. Yes its so true fires are a comm9n thing in hot countries like Portugal. They were very awful last year but some of the skies were fantastic.
