A lighthouse inner staircase totally transformed

for me it is still a fascinating stair case inside a lighthouse. Not long after I came to England, my new dad took me to the cinema one day. We lived in a refugee camp /literally/ and went to the cinema regularly. The film was of a woman being chased and the end scene was a lighthouse stairway, like this. It stayed in my memory as my last years had been in a children's home run by nuns. The vivid colours and the patterns of the staircase looking down as she ran up. The fear. The second film was the escape of some POW from Africa I think, but could have been the orient, I knew no English then at all, which also stayed sharply ingrained in my memory. The second I saw this staircase, the film was there in front of my eyes again.

HI Shoregrass. What incredible manipulation in this photograph. It is most creative and deserves 6 stars but I don't have it to give. I think the composition itself is magnificent without reading how you got there. Perfect use of light and I love the texture as well. I really wish you all the best in the contest.

Thank you, Christine, for a truly marvelous review and that virtual 6. It means a lot that you felt it deserved those stars. So glad you liked it. Ed.

This has actually turned into a great looking abstract Ed, and I especially like the limited color pallet, and the fine textures you have added to this photo. It is also filled with lovely lines and shapes standing out so well.

The photo is sharp with well defined details, and the exposure is just perfect. I like the contrast between the brightness at the bottom, and the darker top.

The format and framing works so well, and with the mirror effect, it is a very good balance in the composition. I think this a really well done abstract, and I wish you luck with the contest.

I love this photo. I actually didn't notice any mixed media (and I tend to use a lot of it) especially after reading your notes. I studied the photo first and thought it looked like a staircase on each side that led up to the top of a cathedral type dwelling. I thought what an interesting result after application of multiple effects. But from your notes, it was pretty much what I saw. Maybe I'm just getting good at this. ;-) What a clever view point. And I would have played with this picture too. Perfect for playing. Thanks for sharing.

It is always nice to see alternate approaches. When looking at abstract art, the viewer needs to let himself/herself be stirred by the movement of ideas and balancing of various shapes. Yu have met this criteria. Good luck in the contest!

Very interesting shot Ed! I visited that lighthouse last summer and didn't even attempt the steps, so I'm impressed you made it 1/3 of the way or more! Nice mixed media work to turn it into a truly abstract design.
