This is a great subject for this contest. The little squirrel is cute. His tail is fluffy. I like how you added the trees faded out in the background the fencing, it creates depth. I would suggest not making the hole in the tree not so uniform it would be more realistic and using a little more shading on the tree to make it seem more round, starting from light to dark as you work your way around. Also the bark on the tree would vary in size a the trunk curves, this would give it more of a round feel. The shadows on you snow is good, but in some areas a little soft, looking like fog. As the snow fades into the background its shadows would be a little harder, with clearer lines. The colour of the shadows is perfect here though. Thanks for sharing

Thank you. I will try to take your suggestions regarding the hole and thanks for other. However, the bark on the tree should not be that round but I should break it up more. I hope to do that also. Thanks again. I do believe the Winter art contest is already settled. Thanks anyway.

Great entry for the contest. I love your little squirrel holding the nut and the way you've made his tail bushy and his bright little eyes looking at you. I also like the distant trees with the snow. The only thing I'm not so keen on is the foreground tree which seems to dominate the scene. When I study a tree bark I can see many different colours so would have liked to have seen a bit more variation in this tree bark. Otherwise a very apt entry for the contest. Good luck! Suzanne

Thank artist suzannethompson2. As I study and like realism, I should have studied the tree bark more, I agree with more colors in the tree. I was thinking the tree should be so large for the proportion that the squirrel was. I need to at least put more snow on, in it. I'm not sure how much I can change some areas in acrylic. I could cover with oil, change much but I kinda wanted to keep acrylic as I'm more or less learning it, relearning a lot. I do believe the Winter art contest is already settled. Thanks anyway.

I like this snowy scene that has good definitions and a pleasant appeal of the winter season! Great details throughout. I especially like your inquisitive looking squirrel with his beautiful bushy tail! Best wishes for the contest.

LOVE THE DEPTH OF FIELD YOU DEPICTED N THIS PICTURE. THE SQUIREL IS QIUTE ADORABLE. THE WAY THE SNOW LOOKS MORE LIKE CLOUDS GIVES IS SUCH A UNIQUE LOOK. TERRIFIC DETAIL IN THE BARK OF THE TREE. VERY NICE

Thank you. But why did you give a 4 which means it needs a lot of improvement. A 4.5 means good, not real good. I hope you will reconsider the rating. Thank you so much and have a wonderful weekend.

This is an adorable image and I love the cheeky character of the squirrel. I also appreciate the time you took with the detail on both the tree and creature. My only criticism is in regards to the background, as the long dark line of shadow in the back of the snow could be blended in a little more. To ensure it doesn't take away the attention from the main focus in the scene, which I'm assuming is the squirrel. Thank you for sharing this lovely piece :)

Thank you so much. I can make the snow whiter and not as much shadow but the hills have shadows. The main focus was winter art and the squirrel preparing food (in the tree is his cache).

This little squirrel is adorable. Apparently, it found something good to eat. The winter scenery is intriguing. Your painting has excellent perspective. I enjoy your attention to realistic detail and color. The painting is well composed and framed. The composition is balanced.

Hi Glena, I think this is really cute! Love the way you did the snow. love the shading there. I'm no expert on bark, but I think you did a great job there too. Very enjoyable to view!

This is so cute! The squirrel with his bushy tail is gathering acorns for the winter and storing them in the hollowed tree.
Well created to show the tree with good detail on the bark and the acorns can be seen inside the hollow. Well created snowy ground , I like the way the top of the wooden fence gives a good sense of how deep the snow is. Nice show of the trees in back.
The squirrel is adorable and well created!
This is well arranged and presented! Best wishes to you in this contest !
