Denise B: Recently, within the last year I have returned to my roots and I have been painting in oils again. After participating in a week long Plein air event where I was able to view artist working in oils in a very modern way, I became interested again after 40 years! Watching their methods and learning about the new materials and techniques all I can say is ?I am back?. |

Denise B: I?m always amazed at which paintings get the most notice. This is not a favorite of mine but has been mentioned by other artists when they try to get me to enter it into contest. Now it?s won 3rd place in the green contest. I?m so thrilled. |

Denise B: My life has become crazy busy in the art world. For that, I am very thankful but it is time to spend some me time on my artwork . |

Denise B: Last night I attended my first gallery show in another town where a piece of my artwork was displayed as part of a show. It was the opening and for the first time I was an artist among others meeting people and mingling. Discussing the craft. Techniques and ideas. It was wonderful and everyone I met were so open and wonderful. Not one was stuffy or full of it. What a great experience. |

Denise B: I tend to get bogged down and I run into artist block. Can?t decise what the paint kind of a thing. So, I ask my FB art followers to send me photos from their travel pictures that were favorites. My fall show has a theme of travel. Wow, have I been impressed by the great photos I?ve recieved. When I decided to join in a 30 min challenge painting for 5 days- we were told to keep it small and simple. So, I?ve been paining 5 x 7 canvases of those travel photos. As I begun to place them side by side I thought about how they reminded me of the old fashioned picture postcards and an idea has been born. I?m thinking my whole show may be on these postcard sized canvases and I may use that theme.. all I know is they are selling like hot cakes. |

Denise B: What will I leave behind? I spent the past week trying to reconcile the deaths of 3 friends. Two died in a horrible accident while the other from an long, difficult, disease. As an artist, my life finds itself interwoven within my art pieces. This week was no different. Sadness, weeping, joy of the friendship all were part of my paintings this week along with the realization that I too shall depart this place and what will be said about my artwork? Will my viewers get my meaning? Should all artwork be about a legacy or tradition? So many questions and not many answers. What I do know is that through my artwork, I am able to find peace. A sense of satisfaction that my life will have been for a purpose. Life as my artwork will be continued in one way or another.... |
