Why do some people think everything needs to be centered?
January 30 at 9:25PM
webster : Just checked it out- that crack is definitely in the right place! Some think everything should be centered, some think you can't ever break the "rule of thirds". How about- look at the esthetics of the photo?
January 30 at 10:05PM
phil1950 : I am not fond of centred or tightly cropped images. A matter of personal taste.
January 31 at 1:17AM
MGTF Blue : I think the opposite that very little should be "centred", the rule of thirds is a good one and most of the time things look better if the main subject is placed on one of them.
January 31 at 3:53AM
jbravo46 : I agree the rule of thirds works well most of the time. But we need not be afraid of breaking the rules.
January 31 at 10:19AM
kenllynch : the department of the interior says the big monument is leaning 2 degrees the top spire has to be taken off it you was the first to see it. in the photo the left hand little monument is straight the big on is not follow the lines of both . Im saying you have a good eye
February 1 at 8:28PM
RominaItalia : I can't answer that. But, why do some people need to live the rule of thirds? :)
February 5 at 8:10PM
RominaItalia : Shouldn't it depend on the subject and the photographer? I'm still learning with a lot to learn and it seems that it "just depends". (that sounds 'amateurish')
February 5 at 8:12PM
jbravo46 : I agree with you RominItalia. We should not be married to any rules. Most of the time I shoot what appeals to me regardless of the "rules" but also shoot at hast one shot with th ROT in mind.

Whoooooo whoooooo. One of my pics just was awarded second prize in the catch-all category for october at betterphoto.com
November 30 at 7:18PM
webster : Congrats! That's great. Which photo? Is it in your portfolio?
November 30 at 11:31PM
Keri Harrish : Congrats! Very exciting :)
December 1 at 12:54AM
jbravo46 : I believe it is.It is the ferris wheel shot. My shot was one of 120 out of 11,400 that where awarded a gold medallion (not a real one) so it was in the top 1 percent
December 1 at 3:07PM
jbravo46 : It is called " Who wants a ride?"
December 1 at 3:11PM
Djohnson1 : hello hope u all had a wonderful christmas and have a happy new year
December 30 at 3:02AM
kenllynch : Dud I didn't do any thing to make you mad I was trying to give advise. we humans, when we look at anything no matter how far how big look to the center of any object first to get the focus to see it. That's why its basic in photography to center the subject in the picture. just advise.

Once again someone gave one of my pieces a 3.5 and then says to crop it or crap it. What the heck?
November 14 at 7:47PM
jbravo46 : said person is muted
November 14 at 8:00PM
blairwacha : Unfortunately, there's no real easy answer. There's really no way for Tom to be able to force someone to read the guidance for reviewing. You can keep non members from reviewing, but a lot of new members end up with people upset with them before they realize how to score a photo.
November 14 at 8:51PM
jbravo46 : I know Tom couldd not possibly police everyone. And I do understand everyone likes different things in art. I just did not like the "crop or crap it" comment.
November 14 at 8:57PM
phil1950 : People who write comments like that have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. Their comments are compltetely irrelevant.
November 14 at 9:16PM
Stacey Nagy : Report him, there is no call for using language like that here. I for one find that word disgusting, and only used by potty mouths (LOL...sorry, I am not really a prude)
November 14 at 10:16PM
Cephus : I liked your image and believe that I gave it a 6. I had some discussions with the reviewer also asking why the low rating and he refused to provide a reason. He has mentioned that he has been muted by a number of members and he has now muted me. He has no class and should be ignored.
November 14 at 11:27PM
phil1950 : I had a look at the image and read what he thought you should crop what a JERK.
November 14 at 11:35PM
MGTF Blue : I actually agree about the need to crop the image in question but NOT with the rating and certainly not the language used in the reply.
November 15 at 5:37AM
donkeyoatey : Rude, and nasty, I agree, no need to be a jerk about his opinion. Some people WANT negative attention..better than NO attention!
November 15 at 8:57AM
jbravo46 : Thanks for all the replies and support. I knew when I posted it that some would say I should have cropped it. I can even live witha lowish score but his response is what ticked me off. But I am over it now. Thanks in no small part to your support.
November 15 at 6:54PM
phil1950 : Unfortunately I worded my previous comment incorrectly I was referring to the reviewers reply not his suggestion. I apologise.
November 15 at 7:02PM
jbravo46 : Phil, So I am confused. You think it should be cropped? If so no problem. i canlive with that
November 15 at 7:10PM
phil1950 : No my friend I think it is fine the way it is. I just meant I should not criticise someone for a sggestion. I did not like his reply to you.
November 15 at 7:41PM
jbravo46 : to be fair he probably did not like be asking if he "was freeking kiding?"
November 15 at 9:10PM
Geokat : Just saw this and went through something very similar. I love constructive criticism, that's why I am here. I reported the person after several attacks and then muted him. No need for it at all

I swear to all in Heaven, Somedays I really wish Fanart would make newbies post work before they are allowed to comment on others work. Someone just gave one of my photos a 3.5 with no conctructive criticism. I donot care so much about the score but it would e nice to know what the reviewer thought needed changing.!!!!!!
October 22 at 8:33PM
Happy Snappy : Sounds like a standard member. You can put no in the non artist review box to not get ratings off these type of non Premier members. I don't think they should be allowed to review as rarely have any work on display themselves. Just my opinion mind.
October 23 at 4:44AM
Happy Snappy : It's on the options page when you submit a picture.
October 24 at 4:07AM
Cyeseye : I can understand giving standard members this option as a way of enticing them to become active and hopefully spring for premier status at some point. The monthly dues are much preferred to having to wade through endless parades of sales pitches and banner ads. So the more premier members the better. But it is rather unseemly for someone to be able to take shots at our work without presenting tangible credentials to back up their words. Trolls are no doubt having wet dreams over this opportunity to do their business. Good to know about that button. Shall be using it for now on.
October 24 at 10:20AM
Happy Snappy : Someone else told me about it. I'm not against criticism but with the non event of repercussions these guys are pretty ruthless and could be anybody. Even revengeful members who already have an account for all we know. Or is that just me being cynical?
October 24 at 5:34PM
jbravo46 : Thanks for the eplies tothis psot.Justseeing them now. It is not so much the lowis score this person gave but that he actually did not offer anything to change. I know y work is not perfect nor for everyone but at least if you do not like it say why.

miesu : I like photos that speak to me without uttering a word, or capture an emotion or evoke a feeling within that speaks to your soul. Your photos seem to do that for me and what I am aiming for in my pictures. nice.
November 15 at 11:04AM
jbravo46 : Miesu, Thank you for the nice compliment. I will head over to check yours out later
