INFORMATION
John has been interested in photography for over 40 years. He thought that he was an excellent photographer John had taken over 20,000 pictures in his life time. In June of 2010 his wife purchased a Sony Alpha 330 and a course on line from jroush@roushstudios.com. He thought he knew a lot about taking pictures, but he found that he had not even scratched the surface about understanding the art of photography John is on his way to becoming a great photographer.

John's current adventure in photography began in the Paducah Kentucky area. Then job opportunities for his wife sent them to Colorado Springs Colorado for four months. He and his wife Jen now reside in a 55 plus community that borders on Old Tampa Bay in Clearwater FL. On the property there is a drainage lagoon that empties into Old Tampa Bay. It is a wild life photographers paradise. There has never been a time John has gone looking for wild life that he has not had the opportunity to capture a new bird in pictures.

John likes to take photographs of all types of subjects. His greatest love is wild life. But he tries to photograph every thing in a desire to broaden his photographic experience.

John can be reached by e-mail at bigkymountainman@gmail.com

Wrights Wow Pictures: I am really disappointed in the majority of the posts for 2012. It seems that all that is necessary is to get something to post in order to be in the race for Top Artist of the Year in what ever category you may have entered it in. There is almost no one promoting their work. So how can we promote our work if no one is interested enough in spending member bucks to promote their work. I see an awful lot of 1 point for reviewing and 2 member cents being posted. Is this what this site has come down to. I have also seen a lot more snapshots or worse that people are posting. Have a little pride and don't post something just to post something. Post something that you would be proud to post and promote.

Intrepid: John - You might want to take a look at a website called pixoto. It has some truly amazing photographs for view.

Kenneth Dinkel: Dear John, thanks for the nomination. I read your statement and happy to know there are still honest stand up people still around. Happy New Year to you and your family. Ken

Echo7: These snap shots you refer too......may be photos in a members eyes. I understand your anger but if you seriousley believe a member has no right to share their work because you class it as a snap shot.....then stop reviewing them.

Wrights Wow Pictures: I did not say that they should not have a right to display their pictures, but to say that person is the number 2 rated photographer is what I object to.

Capture This: Thanks,...I to understand, but I cannot affor to be buying member points? This is just a scam to make the web site millions? and isn't necessary if you click and write enough FREE reviews, and earn it the old fashioned way?
    January 12 at 8:03PM
speed1000: I agree Wrights Wow. I've been on here 1 week and am trying to see the scam of it all, making the site millions? I'll do reviews to enter contests basically. It was the pull of winning actual $ that lured me here. I only upload what I consider my best pics, and for contests only, to get points for boosting them up to be seen by more eyes. Although it is a committee that votes for the winners of $ contests (Makes me wonder if they give out just enough to keep certain people around?) I don't see selling pictures on here as reality. Undecided if I'll stick around.

Wrights Wow Pictures: I have something to get off my chest to clear the air for the start of a new year. I originally joined FAR hoping to sell some of my pictures. It became apparent very soon that was not going to happen. But what I learned was far more important than a few bucks from the sale of a few photos. I learned a great deal about photography from the reviews I wrote so that I could promote my work. I learned that when you review it is easy to assign arbitrary ratings. Even trying to follow the guidelines that FAR publishes would be difficult. It is this process that distresses me the most about FAR. The high ratings don't get assigned because of the quality of the art work. The ratings get assigned because of the dollars from doing reviews or actual cash dollars. If we look at the list of the top 5 (traditional photography, mixed media photography, digital painting, painting, sculpture, or other forms of art posted on FAR) I learned the secret to success and the ranking of art on FAR was determined by the Dollar Sign and not the quality of the art. There are a lot of very talented artists on FAR and believe me I am not fussing at them. There are artists that that the quality of their art will match many of the masters of any venue. Yet there are a lot of highly ranked artists on FAR that have highly ranked "CRAP" My six year old grandchild would create better art than I see listed here. Yet we as professionals give them high ratings. We do not want to offend. I have up to now pretty much gone along with the system. No more starting tonight my participation will be much reduced. I will be promoting a minimum of my better works on FAR. I will go for quality and not quantity. I almost feel ashamed to take the member dollars for the "Crap" that is posted as professional art. No more, I will begin to produce ratings that match the quality of the piece being reviewed. If you post "crap" then you will get a very low rating. I will also provide a detailed review on why this rating has been assigned as is.

I am also disappointed in the management of FAR. I believe that you almost border on the verge of false advertising when you say that there is a 25% chance of winning a cent pump. I have brought this to the attention of management before. They say that it is assigned completely random and that does not mean that it may apply to me. Well as a person that has studied statistics that may be true for a short period of time, but over the long haul if the chance is random. I should be awarded 1/4 of all the cent pumps that are advertised on FAR. The actual percentage is closer to 8% based on my calculations. When you are brand new the cent pumps are closer to the 25% rate. But as you advance and become more competent the rate rapidly falls off.

Now that I have that off my chest. May everyone on FAR have a very prosperous and Blessed New Year.

KayleighMay: I agree, I have seen some horrible photography on here, I don't rate art often because honestly when it comes to painting sculpting or drawing I know nothing. when it comes to my camera i know it in and out. I also feel that taking a photograph of something on your computer desk and a photograph of something in the wild, or a set up photograph should not be rated the same. seriously there are some shots that people put a lot of effort into capturing. I'm not sure if i will remain here long. (Also joined with hopes of selling work)

Wrights Wow Pictures: I try to review everything on here. I don't know things besides photography as well, but I have learned over the time I have been on FAR. I think my reviews of other work has made me a better photographer.

Wrights Wow Pictures: I have been on this site less than a month and I have learned so much from the reviews and reviewing other artists work. Thank you

MariaB: Me too! I find that in reviewing others I am forced to really look at each one and look for the details and what a good photo consists of. I am enjoying this site too!

sandysartstudio: I am afraid I am no expert on photography but photography and art run on the same lines. I do happen to get good photos at times. I use my photography for my art. i will be adding more photograpy to my site this year as I am finally getting around to organizing all my sd cards. Will get it all done one day. sandy

photosbyted: The time have changed from film to digital it was a hard transiotion for me but now instan gradification. In your bio You states 20,000 photos in your life time well last year I shot and processed around 10,000 5,000 in just one trip to Utah just think of the film cost I have saved as I said welcon baoard.
    July 31 at 7:23PM
Wrights Wow Pictures: The 20,000 photos were before the Sony Alpha 330. I have probably shot 8,000-12,000 pictures in the year and three months that I have had this camera. And I am really glad that I don't have the processing costs involved. I would not be able to enjoy this as a hobby if I had film processing costs.

heedamarie: hey John, thanks so much for your help on my computor guidence last night. have it all written down. i had no back up files and dont think they can be retrieved , have one more spot to try. i agrree with your comments above, when i first joined this site i thought part of the name of the game was to promote your photos. i also came to the same conclusion myself with some of the rankings lined up and then i figured out what self promoting did, so i stopped. there is one that is in the top three and i just dont get their ranking it is not deserved, especially when seeing some of the other shots done by unrecongized work. so hat off for voicing your opinion think it needs to be heard. again thanks for your help with my pictures, you are such a generous honest lol, soul and are greatly apprecitaed. hope to be in touch soon.
