I have been taking photographs as a hobby for over 20 years now and I like to think that my photography is improving. I aim to learn more each day and hope this site will help me. I use a Canon EOS600D / Rebel T3i with a variety of lenses but often have my new Fuji F550EXR compact with me, which is great for landscapes and macro. Most of my pictures are taken on walks or holidays and so I thank my long suffering partner, who has to put up with numerous waits, as I compose my shot. If my work gives pleasure to anyone here, then its all been worthwhile.
Snappyviv :
After over a year of frantic input into this site, I have decided to take a more laid back view with regard to my rating position. I've come to the conclusion that getting into the top 10 is as much about popularity as it is about photography (possibly more so in some cases). Sadly I don't have the time or energy to review 30 plus photo's a day and would rather spend more time on my photos - than being a slave to the site. It's been fun for a while but I think it's time to move on. I will keep in touch with old friends and will do the occasional review and posting - but because I want to, rather than feeling obliged to. Good luck to you all. Viv

bosch2 : Good for you, Viv! Maybe its time to think about publishing that book with all of your fabulous architectural shots! And one of the beauty of West Virginia!

We all take 'average' pictures from time to time - the trick is not to post them! If we do, we should expect appropriate feedback and take it on the chin. If you happily accept 5 and 6 star ratings from me, please do not complain if I give a 4 star where it is deserved. Whilst my opinions are not necessarily right, they are honest and genuine. I expect nothing less from others.

bosch2 : I often post photos that are not my faves and am not quite sure why, hoping to get feedback from more talented artists on how to improve those shots. No offense taken to low ratings, just consider it part of the learning process. Joined the site to learn, not win any prizes...

sandysartstudio : I totally agree with what you have said. I do about 10 reviews a day. That is all I have time for. I am back into art full time and reviewing takes a lot of time. I enjoy your travel photos as we travel a lot too. i especially enjoy arches. when i travel and see something I think now that is how Snappyviv would take it. So I learn from this site too.

We learn not from praise but from feedback on our mistakes.

Teresa W : I completely agree we need feedback to learn from our mistakes, but I would add that praise can help keep us on the path of what we are doing right so we keep doing it. It's all about balance. :)
