Fila4 is a managing editor for a small town weekly newspaper. She has been there 19 years. Aside from the various photographs taken for the paper, she also has done a photograph of the week since September of 2004. Sometimes that can be a challenge.
She is a self-taught photographer starting out on a Minolta X-700 which I still have and use. Currently she uses a Canon Rebel XS. She also has two point and shoot cameras, a Nikon P5000 and a Minolta Dimage 500. She went digital with the Dimage in 2003.
Prior to the newspaper business, she was a stay at home mom and worked in stained glass for about 10 years designing small to large panels, lamps and custom windows for clients. She also loves gardening and could be considered to be a plant fanatic.
The five years I have been a member of FAR have been rewarding and a true learning experience. I continue to learn. I greatly enjoy the wonderful community of artists and photographers on the site. Lots and lots of talent.

Just a brief note to everyone that I have been very ill and just got out of the hospital yesterday after an 8 day stay. I had abdominal surgery on an obstructed hernia and will not be able to participate on the site very much for awhile. I will be off from work for the next 4 weeks building my strength up. I am going crazy not be able to use my camera but it will just take some time. The best to everyone. Cindy

fila4 : Thank you all for your well wishes. I am improving but it is a slow process and difficult for me to do absolutely nothing all day long but I have adjusted and am doing exactly what the doctors told me to do. Thank you again.

Just an idea I was thinking about in connection with the end of the year and recognition and awards. I think in light of all of the excellent talent on this site that it would be great to have in all categories (art, mixed media, digital art and traditional photography)a Image of the Year (possibly voted on by the membership), Administrator's Choice (voted on by I guess that would be Tom) and Member's Choice (voted on by the membership). Two of them could be done pretty much the same way the contests are done (with or without names). It would not necessarily mean the already top recognized artist would receive this title. There are many artists who have excellent work who would be great contenders not in the top ten. And of course it would mean some more work for someone but only once a year. What do you all think? Good or bad.
January 10 at 1:44PM
LowRider : I love this idea and think you should present it in the 'General Forum' to get it on Tom's wish list!
January 10 at 1:58PM
fila4 : I will do so. I guess I should have started there first.
January 10 at 2:32PM
LowRider : I think you started just fine--you simply tested your thoughts and yes, please take them forward as I will certainly support you!!

Bluesavanagh : Great idea~ I suggested reviewer of the year to Tom, but nothing has moved forward.~
Great thoughts.~

P W RYAN : good idea!

anniepage : I get frustrated with the way the ratings are done now. There are a lot of photographers here that do not have their work recognized. There are the old stand bys who do....it's not always about the point or money.
We all have to work hard to review to get the $$ to post, yet on other sites that does not happen, and the posters get 2-3 crits and then from people who are uppity....if everyone is working hard, we should all have an equal chance within our genre to be recognized and not grouped.
Just MHO.

STEFFI : Hi, Fila. If you want to see some positive changes on this website, please contact sirthomas1960. We are getting organised to change the things that drove Genapaintingsheep and Susan, and Southern and a Japanese photographer and many others away! It is such a disgrace!

Wrights Wow Pictures : I can't be more in support of this. Not mentioning any names, but when a certain person becomes a top five artist on this site and many of the pictures are badly out of focus. Instead of one or two poses of a subject you get twenty or more and to say that this the quality of work that a highly rated photographer according to FAR makes me sick. I don't have the money to buy me a high rating. Bothered me a lot until recently when I decided I would only post the best work I created and would not submit more than two a week to FAR. There was a picture of a supposed Christmas tree that was so dark and not focused that you barely could make out a few of the Christmas lights.

fila4 :
I know this is not a recipe site but in reference to the Christmas Oreo Truffles photo I have posted here is the recipe.
Oreo Truffles
1 18 oz. pkg. Oreo cookies (I used mint)
1 8 0z. pkg. cream cheese
1 24 oz. pkg. white almond bark
Crush oreos really well and mix with cream cheese. Roll into walnut size balls. Chill for at least 1 hour. Melt the almond bark in microwave according to directions. Dip chilled balls into melted almond bark (I use two forks) and set up on wax paper. Decorate with drizzles of opposite color almond bark or sprinkles. Keep refrigerated. Try to share!

Snopaw : Oh yum! Thanks

SnapBack To Life : This sounds wonderful but on earth is white almond bark? Is it like white chocolate?
January 9 at 12:39PM
fila4 : Yes basically.
