A few years ago I and my coworkers volunteered at an animal shelter in Belize. The country is very much a 3rd world country. The shelter on the island we were on, ran totally on donations. Veterinarians around the world donate their time and expense to work a week at the clinic. At this particular moment, a cat had come in badly injured. It was attacked by raccoons overnight. We did all we could to save it but unfortunately, it did not make it the night. With limited resources and a lack of the proper equipment, the shelter does what it can. It reminds us of how much we take for granted every day here in the States.
