another color mix to get to a Rust color:
Start with red and add brown to get the exact shade you want. Mix the brown carefully, adding a little at a time until the rust shade becomes the exact one you want.
Rust is a browned shade of orange. Mix red and yellow to achieve orange, then add a small amount at a time of blue to brown the color down. Continue to adjust the color until you get your desired rust color.
Important: mix on the pallet and see how it looks, warm colors, like reds, brighten it up, cool colors, like blues, cool it down and darken it.
December 28 at 10:17AM
Lucien van Oosten :
to get a rust color try:
Fool around with variations of Bt. Sienna, Cerulean Blue and White.
After the rust tone you desire is dry you can warm or cool with red or brown glazes to achieve different final effects.

cynnocence : This is a wonderful gesture Lucien. I am so glad that this tragedy has touched so many and has raised the issue of gun control again. Cyn
December 18 at 5:24PM
Sinbackkk : Oh ya! That's the answer!
December 19 at 10:49PM
blairwacha : Unfortunately, Cyn, I think nut control ia a far better solution than gun control.
December 19 at 11:59PM
kimartist : That's a nice offer on your part, but I will never give a dime to that globalist-shill organization. Far better to give to local charities that you know and trust.

"Any fool can know. The point is to understand."
Albert Einstein
How true.
cheers!!!
December 18 at 7:37AM
cynnocence : Yes my friend. Stephen Covey who is the author of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, a book I read early in my career and had a profound effect. One of his habits was that we should all "seek to understand". Totally sympatico with Albert, I see. Cyn
December 18 at 5:28PM
Skyangel02 : Understanding what we know and don't know and why we know or don't know it is a very enlightening experience.

For those that do not understand Jackson Pollack's art, a Jackson Pollack quotes:
"Every good painter paints what he is".
true or false?
enjoy, cheers!!!!

December 6 at 9:24AM
Skyangel02 : Pollock was a chronic alcoholic. His art depicts a twisted warped meaningless mess. Alcoholics tend to create a lot of havoc. Pollock threw paint around. Others throw dishes or furniture around. I know because lived with one long enough. They are messed up people.
December 6 at 3:56PM
phil1950 : Jackson Pollack was cool. NOBODY is perfect it's the inperfections that make us human.
December 6 at 4:34PM
cynnocence : Phil, further to your comment, "it is the imperfections that make us unique" without them, we would all be the automatons in the black and white movie Metropolis. Addicts are addicts, whether their choice is alcohol, food, drugs, shopping, etc. These are all treatable, not curable and we need to understand and offer help, not be a critic.
December 6 at 8:21PM
Skyangel02 : PERFECTLY messed up people are perfectly messed up people. Alcoholics are not COOL at all. That is not a criticism or an offensive statement. It is a simple fact. Addicts cannot be cured of their addictions till they face the FACT that they are addicts and want to change. Excusing people for their addictions by saying no one is perfect is a cop out.
Pollock died of an alcohol related accident. If people had helped him overcome his addiction instead of thinking he was so COOL, they might have saved his life.
December 6 at 9:06PM
cynnocence : Skye, I too have a childhood riddled with abuse and alcohol, but I have to take exception with your statement that "others can help to overcome the person's addiction", this is simply untrue and when accepting treatment themselves, others recognize that they can do nothing, till the addict wants and accepts their help. This is why it is so painful for those who love an alcoholic, since they cannot change the addict until the addict wants change. Cyn
December 7 at 12:19AM
phil1950 : I have friends that are alcoholics and they are cool people. That's not to say all alcholiccs are cool same as all non alcholics are not cool people. Not being perfect is not a cop out it is a reality.
December 7 at 1:14AM
Lucien van Oosten : How come no one answered the question that I posted, related to his comment?
From personal experience: Cyn, tells to hash truth.
becoming informed helps, being educated helps, if you are the victim seeking help, helps! and supporting some one that wants to change is a labor intensive process, takes energy, time and a unyielding belief that it can get better and can be accomplished/ achieved, one day, one step at a time.
God bless!!
have great weekend all,
Cheers!!!

Lucien van Oosten :
a fun fact:
and Santa?
Red may also represent the robe worn by Santa Claus (Saint Nicholas). However, historically, Saint Nicholas was just as likely to be portrayed in a blue, green or brown robe. (The Saint Nicholas in the illustration is from Prussia!)
In 1931, the Coca-Cola company used its signature red color to dress Santa and market its products at Christmas. Although this was not the first red-robed Saint Nicholas (a 1653 English woodcut portrays a red Santa ) it took this major marketing campaign to convince the world that Santa was a jolly old man in red suit.
so that is how advertizing & promoting works.
have great day all.
Cheers!!!

Skyangel02 : It works as long as people play the game. Not all are fooled by it. Gullible people will buy what is advertised. Wise people will check it out and not buy it if they find something more valuable which may not be advertised.
Con artists understand the game and deceive the gullible with it.
"Buy one get one free".

hello all,
just going to brag a little here,
I had entered two pieces in a brick and mortar art show. A Opened juried

On top of all that, I was also invited to display in another gallery space next year for a one month
to do a one man art show
Have great week,

cyn,
I posted a reply to your question on the reviewing forum page.
cheers!!!

Lucien van Oosten :
I keep reading about how we need to improve our members reviewing and critiquing skills. So instead of criticizing the members for their lack of knowledge, I am going to start posting in the reviewing section, on the forum pages, ways for everyone to learn and improve their reviewing and critiquing skills.
Look for the following thread there: Reviewing Prerequisite 1 ( the number will change with each new thread posting that give another lesson).
I will try and do one a week. My hope is everyone reads them and just says ; hay I like it and learned something, or adds to the comments related to the lesson.
Have great day all... cheers!!!
Lucien
November 24 at 11:03AM
avmurray : What a great idea. I will for sure follow these lessons.
November 24 at 11:34AM
cynnocence : Dear Lucien, since you said it was important to you to be corrected, the word "hay" is the dried grass that we feed to horses, the explative that you were trying for is spelled "hey". I will be pleased to watch for and help you with your use of the English language since you stated that this will help you learn and is appreciated. I look forward to your lessons. Cyn
November 24 at 1:53PM
Lucien van Oosten : Cyn,
thanks, maybe I need to have a proof reader before I post stuff, or maybe it should have/has a double meaning? (LOL!!!)
Cheers!!!
Lucien
November 24 at 2:13PM
blairwacha : I'll keep my eyes open.
November 24 at 5:48PM
Happy Snappy : Still wondering what explative means
November 24 at 7:22PM
Skyangel02 : I will also read your lessons and comment if I have anything to say. However, I notice the people who would benefit most from the lessons, do not seem to participate in forum discussions at all. They seem to be too busy writing as many generic reviews as possible in their time. They do not appear to be the least bit interested in getting to know other members and as far as anyone knows they might not even read anything in the forums. Sending them a private note to make them aware of the lessons might be an idea?
I still would like to be able to just tell people I like their work without doing a formal review regarding technical details. ;-)
November 24 at 7:33PM
Badger : Cyn, I will help you with YOUR use of the English language. An expletive is an exclamation that is profane, vulgar, or obscene whereas hey is in fact an interjection used to express surprise, joy, or anger. ;o)
November 24 at 8:31PM
Badger : Note also the correct spelling of explEtive.
November 24 at 8:32PM
Lucien van Oosten : avmurray and donketoatey, great, I hope you leave a comment or two and pass it on as you see fit, I think word of mouth really does help get the message out there and to me peer pressure can make it work. It will take time.
November 25 at 8:34AM
Lucien van Oosten : Blairwacha, keep the min o pen as well, your support will be greatly appreciate, same as avmurray and donketoatey is.
November 25 at 8:36AM
Lucien van Oosten : Happy Snappy, â??explativeâ?? could not find that word or an explanation of what it means. I am sure Cynn met â??expletiveâ??. Gang if I spell it with an â??Aâ?? in the future I still mean it with an â??Eâ??.
November 25 at 8:37AM
Lucien van Oosten : Skyangel02, my young old Padawan you have so much to learn; it is hard to know what you do not know.
November 25 at 8:40AM
Lucien van Oosten : Badger, thanks! great we are starting to communicate, and helping each other. It seems none of use knows it all.
November 25 at 8:40AM
Skyangel02 : Lucien, I can echo your exact words back to you because they also apply to you. ;-)
November 25 at 4:16PM
cynnocence : Glad that it was caught. Quite frankly the spellchecker works quite well.
November 25 at 11:46PM
Lucien van Oosten :
there is a feature in the certification section called:
Lock and Key
has anyone here ever used it or know how it works? I would be interested in hear from you if you have.
thanks
Cheers!!!
Lucien
November 18 at 11:40AM
donkeyoatey : Yes, I HAVE used it, and it was a lot of help..got to pick WHO to help me..a really awesome feature and well worth the cheap price!.
November 18 at 11:42AM
Skyangel02 : They seem to use it over at Fan Story for teaching workshops. You need to pay the teachers real money to enter them.
I refuse to pay real money for workshops on a site where we already pay real money for our membership and I am sure very few can afford to pay real money for lessons. However I think paying member dollars to the teachers of the workshops would be a great idea. Then those teachers could promote more of their own work with it anyway and they really do deserve to do so.
I would gladly pay someone like Echo member dollars to join in a workshop where he teaches us things like HDR. He does it all for free at the moment. I also think those in a workshop can see each others work before it is posted in public and can edit it by following the suggestions given in those workshops before it goes into contests etc. I am presuming this is how it works but Donkey would be able to verify that or not since he has created one.
November 18 at 11:21PM
donkeyoatey : lock and key is a one on one critique of a piece, where you choose the people to help, not a workshop. I think a workshop would be a VERY cool idea!
