In their annual display of unabashed patriotism, millions of Norwegians all over the world dress up on the 17th of May (Syttende mai) and take part in traditional parades, ceremonies and parties to celebrate the creation of Norwayâ??s own constitution on the 17th of May in 1814. Even in Crete they had made an arrangement on this day. In Norway this the childrenâ??s day more than anything. The parades all over the country are more or less just for the children and all the schools are represented with their pupils, their own band and perhaps a choir. Since Oslo has a lot of schools this is of course going on forever. The always pass the castle where the King, Queen ,Crown prince and princess with their children are salute the parade, and they again dip the colors when passing. In Crete all this was of course in a small scale, and the only reason we went was because of my grandson. This photo shows how a crew of young people painted the flag on peopleâ??s faces. The reason for picking just this photo out of all the others was because it wasn'tâ??t as busy as the rest. And of course also because of the lovely Norwegian girl.
