Claire de Lune [Moonlight] is the third, and probably most known and beloved, movement of one the most famous piano suites; the Suite Bergamasque by Claude Debussy. Debussy composed the Suite first in 1890 but did not publish it before 1905 after significant changes. Claire de Lune is based on the poetry collection Poems Saturniens. It was first called Promenade Sentimentale, but changed before 1905, probably as homage to Verlaine and was also taken from a poem by Verlaine. The musical notes are painted after Debussy,s original and were the most complicated and time consuming part of the picture. The panting is homage for Debussy and Verlaine, a fantasy trying to understand their style. For this reason, rules of reality do not apply.
