Your Favorite Era In History Contest Entry
Les Annees folles is the French term for what was called the Golden Twenties in most of Europe and the Roaring Twenties in the Americas. It is used to describe the time between WWI and WWII, when money was rare, but the arts were booming. Art Deco and the Cabarets were on their peak and Swing and Jazz were the music of choice.
I was not sure which era of history to choose for the contest, because I have not one in favor. I have many. Each of them has the good and the evil. I chose the 1920s for: ALL THAT JAZZ.
The collage was crafted in twelve layers from photographs I toke in museums, scans of old postcards and paintings after both. The two musicians in the upper corners are members of the Jazzing Orchestra King Carter, crafted after a photo of a photo from 1921. The lady in the middle is the actress Louise Brooks, crafted after an artist photo from the mid twenties. The statue is a bronze made by Henryk Kuna in 1925. The Little Tramp in the middle of course is Charlie Chaplin. The sitting lady below is Marlene Dietrich in The Blue Angel, a 1930 German movie directed be Josef von Sternberg. The well known Man with the Golden Trumpet is Louis Armstrong. The music above is from one of Amstrongs popular performances; Mandy make up your mind, written by Irving Berlin in 1924.
