This painting is homage for Octavio Ocampo and based on two of his works, but not a likeness. The differences are intentional. While Octavio Ocampo attempt to show human characters and emotions using flower features; I tried to show the eternal soul of nature herself using human features. Octavio Ocampo is one of Mexicoâ??s most prolific artists. Ocampo is known for his paintings in which detailed images are intricately woven together to create larger images. Those paintings are sometimes evocative, sometimes wryly sardonic. The optical illusions fading back and stepping forward as one studies the pieces, notice details and finally recognize the large scale intention. Ocampo terms it his â??Metaphoric Styleâ?? Alcatraz is a Spanish word meaning Calla Lily. The Calla Lily [Zantedeschia eathiopica] is native to Africa, but is cultivated around the world. Calla is widely used in bouquets and flower arrangements. It may surprise you that Calla Lilies are grown not only in white, but in a wide range of color. Pink, red, blue, purple, lavender, yellow, brown and even black species are known. The white Calla is symbol of beauty, innocence, purity and victory. In Christian Religion it is symbol of divine purity, holiness and faith. Pink symbolizes grace, gentility, innocence and happiness. Shades of brown symbolize beauty, mystery and grandeur.
