Summer - Art Contest Entry
Some of us call it Grannies Bonnet. It is the Flower most of us know as Columbine and a few as Akelei. Others call it by the pretty Latin name Aquilegia. However it is called, it is one of the pettiest flowers I know of. About 70 species are found wild growing in meadows and woodlands thorough the Northern Hemisphere. Columbine is also cultivated as Garden flower and available in large numbers of hybrids. The flowers are used by Native Americans as treatment for ulcers and as edition to fresh green food. It is said that it is very sweet; but do not try them, because the seeds and roots are highly poisonous. Columbine poisoning could be fatal.
