You probably have heard of tacos, the traditional Mexican dish. There are probably 1001 or more variants of fillings known around the world. But however they are filled, they all have one thing in common: The TORTILLA, which is folded around the fillings. Now there are different kinds of tortillas... However, in Mexico [and elsewhere in Central America] it is a kind of flat bread made from grounded Maiz [corn]. In the native villages Tortillas are still made nearly the same as 1000 years ago. There are three colors of maiz [corn] used for tortilla making, white, yellow and blue. The tortillas in the photo were made from white maiz. In ancient times tortillas were baked on large stones laid into the fire. In some villages those stones have changed into metal sheets in modern times, but all the rest of making tortillas is about the same: Maiz is soaked in lime-water and finely grinded, than kneaded into dough and pressed into flat patties which are cooked as you see above.
I merged two photos, taken at a small Mayan village, which is hidden in the jungle of the Yucatan Peninsula [Mexico].

The photos were taken with Konica Minolta Dimage-Z2 in available daylight filtered through Jungle foliage
